That is what I intend to do,but the Grand Avenue Bus Depot mainly services Brooklyn,my other choices would be the one by Shea Stadium or the La Guardia depot. You don't always begin your shift at a depot and end it at the depot correct?

Sometimes you start or end a shift run at a major timepoint, so not always at the depot. Are you trying to get into NYCT or MTA Bus? Casey Stengel and College Point are near Shea, but Casey is closer.

I don't think, you get a letter stating that you passed. I think you only get the application and report to 180 letter.

What do the five doctors check for in the medical? Do they take blood?

No they do not take blood. If that is needed they will tell you to go to your doctor, or one of their specialists. They do the normal stuff that is done with physicals. They hook you up for a EKG, make you drop your stained trousers, touch your toes, then grab your crown jewels, and tell you to cough.

I felt so violated.........

Yes, they do make you do this. They have to check your heart-rate, and pulses, they check your lungs, they check for hernias.

I don't mind the grabbing of the jewels, but they need to hire cuter female doctors to do this.

ROFLMAO, well if they were cuter, they take the risk of getting an eye poked out. Hope the wife dont mind someone else grabbin the boys.

They did not check my nuts. They did not check for a hernia. They did not take blood.

They didn't do much actually. So if you have a hernia or something, you could get away with it.

Before you go in for your medical, they have you sit at a computer. That is what the computer asks you:

Do you have (check next to what it is you have)

hernia

irrital bowel syndrome

acid reflux disease

constipation

heart problems

penis problems

etc

I know it sounds rediculous, but thats what it was.

Oh and another good tip.....they will ask you how many surgeries you had in your life. I don't suggest lieing, but if it wasn't major, don't bring it up. Somebody got stitches in his head when he was in his late 20's. It was about 6 stitches. The dotors on the mta didn't know about it. He told them, and they asked him to go back to his doctor to get a note to OK him to work. I had stitches in my head, I didn't tell them, they didn't know, and here I am....driving a bus as dizzy as hell....j/k. Basically, if its not serious, don't open up a can of worms.

NYCT,Taking exam #8006 in April. Grand Avenue Depot is the closest one to where I live but I heard that La Guardia depot is one of the worst(on another transit message board)they run their buses into the ground.

DOB:Sounds pretty much like the DOT Exam which I took prior to obtaining my cdl permit. They checked for a hernia, made you touch your toes, squat, etc.Which you dont really need since this is a city job driving a municipal vehicle. DMV website is really confusing to understand sometimes.

LGA is the ex Triboro garage, so what can you expect.

As for the physical, it doesn't matter if it's a city or state vehicle, as they are guided by some of the Federal DOT rules. They do receive Federal dollars, so they have to follow some of their rules. A thorough physical is part of it. Also having diabetes can disqualify you from being hired from a driving position, with a commercial vehicle. That is not discrimination. Large vehicles can do alot of damage, and kill alot of people.

La Guardia is horrible!!!!! As far as the upkeep of their buses. What division do you want to go to is the question. NYCT or MTA Bus? I would pick NYCT, and go to Grand Av.

Either one,yes Grand Ave is my first choice, have driven by there several times. Parking garage on the roof. The buses are my favorite(RTS). I wouldn't want to drive the artics if I had a choice. How are the routes? They all go to Brooklyn right?

I saw a RTS bus parked on Queens Blvd yesterday(red stripe)...Triboro coach?..had the FDNY logo on the side...wonder what they use it for? To put people in temporarily after a large fire? I thought Red Cross handles that stuff.

Grand Avenue is a nice big Depot but as far as traveling wise you wouldn't want to go there it's an all indutrial area no stores or anything the only bus that you can rely on is the Q59 which is not reliable at all there is no street parking although there is parking on the roof on a clear day on the LIE you can spot the Depot

If you live by Grand, I would say make that your first choice. It's the newest/state-of-the-art MTA depot. The routes are B15, 24, 39, 43, 47, 48, 51, 57, 60, 61 & Q59. I would pick MaBSTOA or NYCTA over MTA Bus any day.

The FDNY bus is an ex-MTA RTS used as a moble command CTR. NYPD has a couple as well.

Go to Fresh pond, there's a great coffee shop over there!

Hmm,my driving school office is on Fresh Pond Rd,off 68th ave which is just a couple of blocks south of the bus depot. I don't drink coffee Bob,but I believe you that there is a great coffee shop over there. Most definitely a better neighborhood by the Fresh Pond depot rather than the Grand Ave depot.

Unless you are doing pull ups at the depot, doesn't a bus operator spend very little time at their depot? Your job is to be on the road driving a bus right?

after you take the drug test, its usually 2-3 weeks later they call you down for the medical. They say 2 - 90 days, but its usually 2-20 days. It could go as long as 90, depending on how badly they need people.

As you know, they need bus operators badly. So for all of my friends, it was 2 days. For me, it was 2 days.
