Earle Baldwin Posted February 24, 2008 Share #1 Posted February 24, 2008 Since NJ Transit, according to another thread, has started to remove from active service members of its original F40PH-2 fleet, I thought everyone might enjoy some photographs made when the locomotives and their companion Comet II equipment were the "latest and greatest." http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/njdot/njt4114arc.jpg (Newark Penn Station) http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/njdot/njt4116brc.jpg (Middletown) http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/njdot/njt4120arc.jpg (Netherwood) http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/njdot/njt4120brc.jpg (Bound Brook) http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/njdot/njt4127arc.jpg (Middletown) http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/njdot/njt4128arc.jpg (Perth Amboy) http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/njdot/njt4129drc.jpg (Somerville) The view of the 4120 at Netherwood is interesting as it and the 4118 were serving as the protection power for the ceremonial inaugural trip of Comet II equipment from Westfield to Newark Penn Station and return on June 12, 1982. Governor Kean particpated in a ribbon cutting ceremony and the public was invited to ride the train. I still have my souvenir ticket...a nice momento. I hope you enjoy these views of this equipment when it was considered the state of the art in rail commuter transit. Regards, Earle

NJ Transit F40PH-2CAT's 4117 and 4118 were suffering from mechanical difficulties and as a result NJ Transit retired them. All the other F40PH-2CAT's I believe are still in service.
