w8Hou Posted May 26, 2010 Share #1 Posted May 26, 2010 From NY1 on Monday The Transport Workers Union filed legal papers today (Monday) to force the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to award planned raises to transit workers. The TWU is asking the State Supreme Court to order the MTA to abide by an arbitration panel's decision to give three percent raises next January. The agency has paid out four percent raises each of the last two years and says it cannot afford another increase. Local 100 argues the MTA's attempts to deny the raises are unfair and illegal. Rutgers Tube Posted May 26, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 26, 2010 From NY1 on Monday Link: http://www.ny1.com/content/news_beats/transit/119145/transit-workers--union-to-sue-mta-for-a-raise/ DC-37 signed a new contract last March, a full year after the previous one expired. Inclusive titles at Transit have yet to receive their retro pay, their 8.16% raises and any additional benefits. What the hell is with NYCT that they pull these "We can't pay you" stunts? They're violating contractual agreements and denying their employees much-deserved pay and benefits. And then they want to complain about pool tables, sick leave and old work habits? How about this, Jay Walder and Co.: Give the workers what they deserve. Open their wallets and put in the owed money before you open your mouth and bullshit comes out. Noflexdont Posted May 26, 2010 Share #4 Posted May 26, 2010 These are all ploys against the union. New contracts are coming up soon and it time to belittle their work force. By holding out there are getting free press about the greedy TWU employee who receiving huge raises. (WE ARE NOT) Mean while there wrong. Now the MTA going to spend millions on lawyer’s fees and still lose. Just pathetic

Just pathetic The way the TA sees it is that they would rather give millions to a lawyer or a private contractor than their own employees. If the MTA was a parent, it would have lost its children to child welfare years ago and been locked up for child abuse.

Rapid Transit TO Posted May 30, 2010 Share #7 Posted May 30, 2010 I can't understand why TWU isn't publishing a list of all contracts signed by the MTA since their claim on being unable to pay the raises.. How does one enter contracts with additional parties, when you can't honor an arbitrated agreement?? Its sorta like keeping the vacation fund up to date while the mortgage goes unpaid..
