Homeball420X Posted June 28, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 28, 2010 I went out to queens this morning to visit some friends and I took the (which was a 46) however on the platform during the morning rush i did see a few trains. To me it doesn't really feel the same without the . On my return trip I took the new service and thats where I really got sad. I just doesn't feel the same without the V. Also because of the 8 car consist it seems much more crowded. Maybe it's just me. What do you guys think?
iGeMiNix Posted June 28, 2010 Share #2 Posted June 28, 2010 Yeah, same experience, it is different. Some how my midday that I took today took about 15 minutes to come and it was after the just left 34 St.
Princelex Posted June 28, 2010 Share #3 Posted June 28, 2010 I thought I was alone feeling this way. Everything doesn't feel the same. Riding the bus has felt different and so has riding the trains. For me, its dark and sad feeling for me. I can only imagine what 6th Ave and Broadway is looking like right now.

bklyntekgeek Posted June 28, 2010 Share #5 Posted June 28, 2010 I feel the same way on the A this morning. Had an R-32 this morning which took the place of the R-44 I usually take. Saw 2 R-44's going to work and coming home today. Was a happy and sad feeling.

Like a can of a solid object. It's solid, and there's no space. Literally.
Nova RTS 9147 Posted June 28, 2010 Share #8 Posted June 28, 2010 I didn't touch the new , but the seems a lot more hectic and busy. The sometimes seems spotty in service, and the passenger load seemed that much more heavier. The (W)'s presence is really missed!

iGeMiNix Posted June 29, 2010 Share #11 Posted June 29, 2010 really? it was like every5-8 mins for me. During my home ride during that time. I had to wait 15 minutes at 34th, it was just probably some minor issue but it isn't a good thing.

NovaBus 5121 Posted June 29, 2010 Share #13 Posted June 29, 2010 To me the true test is not during the summer (and obviously not day one, its the beginning of new operations for a lot of people and things) but in late August and September, school kids from both elementary school to high school and the mass majority of college students adding to the passenger loads on the subway trains. 2 Train Master Posted June 29, 2010 Share #14 Posted June 29, 2010 I rode this new also and honestly it's nothing special. It's a waste of railfan time of recording and taking pictures it's really not worth it. was packed at times and the was more crowded even during the off peak hours.Lots of people were confused thinking the was going to Lower Manhattan and these a**holes gotta know what to do instead of listening to music, reading a book or something and read the G.O papers and stuff posted. Also a few T/O's overran the 8car stop marker saying they couldn't see it.It's a shame.

I took the new train this morning, it wasn't too bad and it is convenient for riders, however, i do miss seeing the along 6th Ave. The to Astoria felt like the old Express via Broadway Exp. it wasn't a bad ride, but the whole R160 on the thing im not really feeling it. i do miss the train, and i will always miss the , but the to Astoria should've been done from the Get-go. Ridgewoodian Posted June 29, 2010 Share #17 Posted June 29, 2010 I got on the this morning around 8:30 and got off at W. 4th St at slightly after 9:00. For the first time since, oh, 1993 I have a one-seat ride to work, which is nice, and one that's reasonably rapid. Within a stop or two we were SRO although certainly far from crush loaded. We certainly seemed more crowded than usual to me, although I wasn't sitting in the car I usually occupied on the (M2). (I used to sit up front, now I'll be sitting in the middle or the back.) It seemed that fewer people than normal got out at Essex (usually half or more of the car clears out.) I imagine that as time goes by fewer people will leave the train there; a neighbor of mine sheepishly admitted that he had totally forgotten about the switch so he had gotten out and had transferred to the . I wouldn't be shocked if a few people had made that mistake. There were a couple of brief delays - once between Marcy Ave and the bridge and once at the end of the Chrystie St. Connector, just before Broadway-Lafayette. Nothing terribly serious, though. Anyway, as commutes go it wasn't terrible and it was GREAT not having to go out of my way or switch trains. Coming home at 10:00 tonight was a bit more of a problem. A bunch of uptown (M)s passed through W. 4th and we got a bunch of downtown (F)s, but no (M)s. We finally got on the third and took that to Delancey. Eventually, after a while, an showed up there. Obviously it had been delayed in some way and so it ran express after Myrtle-Broadway, which worked out for me. All in all it took an hour, maybe a bit more, to get home. So, a mixed bag on the first day. Hopefully the kinks will be worked out and it'll turn into a hell of a line.
West End Posted June 29, 2010 Share #18 Posted June 29, 2010 I got onto the around 7:15pm at 23rd to visit a friend off of Lorimer. Almost everyone on the platform looked confused but about 10 of them turned into smiles. As the pulled into Essex, there was already a across the platform. The Nassau St Line kept to its normal evening routine of having the (M2)/(M) precede the , and it was kind of cool to see a decent amount of people vacate the as if the were some sort of an express train... even though it's not. Fairly smooth ride all in all. Could be a little faster though for a 6th Ave Local - kind of reminded me of the (M2) at times. The one-seat ride definitely made up for it though. I mean, yeah, transfer stations are convenient and all... but if I wanted to sit in a sauna, I'd go to the gym.
CulverLineGuy Posted June 29, 2010 Share #19 Posted June 29, 2010 I'm on vacation for two weeks, so I took this day to check out the . I took the to the to Forest Hills to catch an to Middle Village. I caught it at around 930p. The new was pretty empty. It WAS the evening service though so I dont know what it was like during the Rush. I didnt make it to Metropolitan til around 1230a because I left the train twice once at 42St and again at Flushing Av to use the restroom (too much Iced Coffee and Iced Tea) lol. Overall it was a different feeling, seeing a train from 6Av cross the Williamsburg Bdg, but it was cool though. I will miss my (M2) via the West End though. bstar1 Posted July 1, 2010 Share #21 Posted July 1, 2010 The Broadway Line has lost its energy: - By having the loc, only exp. - coming from Queens are crowded, oppose from starting at 57st it was empty. - They took R68/As off using 100% R160s, also meaning we will not see an R 68 going exp, and on the Brighton line except (. - They should've kept the at 57st all times, and let the go to Astoria by itself. - They should've also kept the exp, and loc by itself. When I took the Downtown this week, some people wanted to go to Whitehall St. Soon after, they found out that it was only going loc to Canal St, then to Brooklyn. So they got out to wait for a next train. If the was loc by itself, then it will relieve confusion.
bstar1 Posted July 1, 2010 Share #22 Posted July 1, 2010 On the 6 Av Line, with using mainly R160s & the 100% R160s, we're not going to see R46 too much anymore.

If a train is crowded what does that tell you? A lot of people need to use it right? So what's the sense of having the train sit empty at 57 st when it could be assisting a packed train that has to carry itself further up into Queens with lots of people after losing its previous set of help.
