MattTrain Posted July 2, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 2, 2010 I'm just curious, is there a reason why 126th Street Depot is not part of MABSTOA (Manhattan and Bronx Surface Transit Operating Authority)? I say this because although 126th Street Depot is in Manhattan it's not part of it.
Eric B Posted July 2, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 2, 2010 Goes back to which agencies ran it before consolidation. Just like the former outer boro privates being MTA Bus.
Nova RTS 9147 Posted July 2, 2010 Share #3 Posted July 2, 2010 I'm just curious, is there a reason why 126th Street Depot is not part of MABSTOA (Manhattan and Bronx Surface Transit Operating Authority)? I say this because although 126th Street Depot is in Manhattan it's not part of it. All MaBSTOA garages were formerly owned under 5th Avenue Coach. When the bought them out, they created the subsidiary for union/pension sakes. 126 was never part of 5th Ave and thus not under the MaBSTOA brand. Slightly off topic question: Why is MaBSTOA still around? Can it be consolidated into NYC Transit?

w8Hou Posted July 3, 2010 Share #5 Posted July 3, 2010 Slightly off topic question: Why is MaBSTOA still around? Can it be consolidated into NYC Transit? They have a different pension fund from their counterpart, they also dont have civil service. There's been rumors going around that MTA may remove civil service titles in NYCT bus so that really merge all divisions into one huge ass family. Removing civil service status from NYCT unions, particularly buses, is part of Jay Walders' master plan/wishlist. Should it happen, it would have to come from NYS Legislature. I don't see that happening.
aemoreira81 Posted July 4, 2010 Share #7 Posted July 4, 2010 Goes back to which agencies ran it before consolidation. Just like the former outer boro privates being MTA Bus. The 126 Street Depot, however, is a former FACCo facility. It was designated as TA after the FACCo routes in Manhattan and the Bronx were seized. And why were they seized? There was a lengthy ongoing strike.
Q43LTD Posted July 8, 2010 Share #8 Posted July 8, 2010 It'd be interesting to see what happens when 126 closes for rehab. I wonder where all of their routes and buses go
