Citaro Posted July 3, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 3, 2010 DB, "Deutsche Bahn" or German Rail (state owned German National Railway company) plans to invest 41 billion € on rail network and new trains. The current system is still one of the most modern in the world, but that isn't enough, thinks Germany. A quarter is for new trains, a new Intercity, will be called ICX (300 trains may be manufactured by Siemens and Bombardier) to replace the IC, ICE1 and 2 trains, new regional trains (400) and a high speed train by Siemens, a advanced version of the ICE 3, the Velaro D or BR407. It is currently being built in Krefeld-Uerdingen, Germany. The Velaro family is already operating with success in Spain, China and Russia. From late 2011, the latest generation is also due to run in its home country, reaching up to 320 kilometers per hour. Deutsche Bahn ordered 15 high-speed trains from Siemens in 2008. Production is in full swing. As a so-called multi-system train, the Velaro D can run in Germany, France, Belgium and Switzerland—despite differing voltages in these countries’ traction networks. In addition, it can be coupled with the previous ICE 3, making possible its flexible deployment in German train schedules. Example: the train initially travels as a double train (400 meters long with around 900 seats) and is split later to reach two different destinations.
