Fireworks: Do you love them or hate them?

Recommended Posts

Being that July 4th has basically arrived, it's tommorrow, I can hope and pray that I will be alive on July 5th. I have for years feared the sight and sound of pyrotechnic devices of all forms. I had to deal with it last year being that I went to a important famliy barbecue last July 4th but the hatred for fireworks, M-80's, cherry bombs, firecrackers is still there. I like to spend the night of July 4th inside my house so I don't have to see any of these loud, obnoxious amd dangerous devices. The dangerous part lead to my phobia in which I would stay in my room and blast max volume stereo music into my ears just to avoid their sound. By blocking out the sound I would not notice their presence thus believing my house won't be burned down that year. I had to hear the 100 decibel madness for myself last year but I still HATE WITH ALL THE HATE I HAVE this tradition of fireworks despite losing the phobia associated with it.

I would like to gather some opinions about fireworks and their pyrotechnic friends. Do you love them, hate them, fear them or are you a neutral with a mix of love, hate and fear?

Fireworks are the greatest entertainment around. Theres nothing like having fun lighting m80's up and running for your life. Its too bad people cannot be mature in NY and get hurt in all sorts of ways. When I was a kid I would go with my pops down to chinatown and buy a whole shitload of m80's and whatever else made noise. The biggest one I ever lit was I guess a blockbuster and it basically rocked the whole neighborhood

Love 'em. They're a ton of fun. Bottle rockets, Roman Candles, even pointing two tanks at each other a foot apart and lighting em up and watching em battle is a lot of fun. Yeah they're loud, but they're colorful and it's fun to light one up and see what it does. Also liked the larger bottle rockets that would explode and the parachute men would come down and everyone try and catch them.

The craziest fireworks I've seen, 2 years ago I went to a friend's and his cousins brought in all the good stuff. I'm talking 10" mortars, big and LOUD, going way up into the air and making a huge explosion that lit up the night sky for a bit, and doing it in the suburbs. Set off three about a half second apart and that shit looks professional.

When I was younger family had a party in Rhode Island, every year. They got good stuff too and we'd just all light them off and go nuts. Then at the end, they took all the crap they didn't want from the year, and light it on fire on the lawn in a giant bonfire. They had one of the old ski tows from what ski resorts used to use years ago, and you could crank the line around in a big oval. The line had hooks to go on. So naturally, what better way to celebrate the 4th than take a tank of acetylene and use it to fill balloons, hook the balloons on the ski tow, and crank the tow around until the baloon went over the bonfire and KABOOM exploded and sent a huge mushroom cloud up. You could hear the explosion a mile away and if you were within 150 feet you'd get hit with a wave of air. Hell of a way to end a night, and lots of fun.
