We are our own worst enemy!

here we go again. we made the front page of the post. while some of us fight layoffs by trying to appeal to the public the post catches employees sleeping in their cars while on the clock. plus they got it on camera. come on people this does not help us win over the hearts and minds of the public. i remember when the news caught a S/A on tape at 145 sleeping while the station was closed. we are public enemy number 1. lets stop the nonesense.

I just read that article and the post is a funny paper..Rip van winkle it refers to one of the workers.

I'm sure the guys on here don't take abuse their jobs, alot of the trade union workers just don't give a Fu*k, I've come to realize that over the past few years.

The NY Post is a joke...I keep saying it: these tabloid papers will find anything bad and misconstrue the information to make it worse. While these accusations of workers sleeping on the job is absurd, the Post is taking it to a whole different level. SMH....

The impression that I have from these newspapers is that they tend to bash and taunt the working people of NYC Transit and other MTA New York Entities, it's not funny anymore. NY Daily News and the NY Post are such liars, I feel like there's a bias in them, the devil in them. For every mistake that NYC Transit Personnel make, the tabloids find every way to sensationalize that and will make it bigger that it is. This is why people have such a bad impression of MTA New York in general.

Since you brought up that freak of nature Walder you'd be surprised what I heard about him...he lives in the very Borough of Brooklyn, in Prospect/Lefferts Gardens! For a "man" who tries to act as if he has a high caliber he could do way better. I was expecting Long Island or somewhere Upstate.

I had to edit the Jay Walder part of the post, because I thought it was inappropriate for this subject, but sine you caught me saying that, I will reply. He was brought here to help the (MTA) out following the exit of Eliot Sander. He has worked in the London Tubes before headed to NY. I heard he was a station agent for NYC Transit at one point, (I could be wrong). I have not read a newspaper article that bashes Walder. He's a living Hypocrite because he hasn't lived to his promises to fixing MTA New York. He did attend high school in Queens, forgot which one though.

Thanks, for the info.

Anywho, to all the remaining (MTA) employees out there, be on the lookout the Media is looking for another mistake to sensationalize in the News.

These guys were set up, c'mon now. Somebody called the Post and gave them info about these employees. As of now the article has 84 comments, and most of them anti union, anti MTA employees. First it was the track workers.....and the propaganda continues.

I am sure the first paper that Walder opened up this morning(He gets several every day delivered to his doorstep)was the NY Post.

first off they were wrong to be sleeping in their cars. second it was most likely a disgruntled employee that dropped the dime. i understand there can be a lot of down time in certain depts but that does not give employees the right to sleep out in the open with the public walking around. if you are going to do anything thats not work related do it out of sight.

Whoever, somebody called up the NY Post and tipped them off. Have they covered all of the MTA titles already in the papers?who is next? the cleaners?,,, They do this to divert attention from the scandals that management is doing...but why doesn't the media follow and stalk them?

I've been singing this same song to my co-workers about remaining inconspicuous while on the clock: don't park at bus stops or next to fire hydrants; don't sleep in the trucks; don't sit in a truck doing nothing for hours on end; don't bring portable DVD players into the truck to watch while on the job; no alcohol in the truck; don't have porn magazines out on the truck dash; don't have the truck idle in one spot endlessly; if you're in a park. . . . WORK.

The title "Subway workers. . . ." and the fact that "Three transit workers. . . ." are used before the subjects of the article are identified doesn't surprise me at all. The Post is nothing but a union-hating Conservative rag, and the public will do anything to provide their reasons for budget shortfalls and rising fares. Camera phones have become publicly-visible workers' worst enemies, and since a worker doesn't necessarily carry his or her name in bright, bold lettering all over his or her face, it's only logical that the pigeon-holed label of "A NYC Transit worker. . . ." or "A City Employee. . . ." or "NYPD officer. . . ." That stated, each of us serves to make or to make and break the image that other workers have caused the public to formulate. In short: if one of us F's up. . . . We ALL F up.

I understand where cdi919 is coming from, and it bothers me that it only takes one obnoxious showcase of senselessness and disregard for those who ultimately provide the capital for these clowns' salaries to make news headlines and lead to investigations, monitoring from management and even job losses. It only takes a second to take a picture, and while a worker may have dosed off for only five minutes during a hard several weeks of being overloaded with overtime, the lack of a bystander's awareness to the real story behind the fatigue, coupled with the addition of a 8mp Droid, offers a "clear vision" of how "Compensated sleeping causes fare increases and service decreases."

What causes increasing prices in this country is three things:

-Rising executive salaries and perks when contrasted with those of the American worker. We ALL unfortunately pay to support the f**king fat cats.

-Outsourcing which devalues the American dollar by slowly bleeding the value out of it into foreign currencies

-Wall St douche bags who believe in trading commodities many times before they get to market and therefore driving up the price on American commodities, American goods made from those same commodities, and American goods which require shipment or delivery by means of a transport method that uses those same commodities.

Last night me and my conductor had to isolate a car with vomit in a relay. We notify control and get to the terminal almost an hour later. Six cleaners standing on the platform , not one wants to clean it. Some this and that about it's another guys car. We're on the train back and forth and off it less than 15 minutes in 4 hours and we have to hang around on our break time waiting for some cleaner to come clean the mess since we un-isolated the car back at the terminal. Long story short , the dispatcher has to get involved and call a cleaning supervisor.

Turns out whoever was responsible for the car was sleeping somewhere , the train left late , and on my next trip I caught up to it and got stuck behind it all because of one guy whose a f*ck up down here. Needless to say his supervisor probably did nothign more than talk to him if he even did that. We are our own worst enemies down here because all the departments wearing the same MTA patch don't look out for one another or act cohesively. I was discussing the same thing with my conductor that another poster posted here , the reporters are out there. How hard would it be to snap a photo of vomit and six cleaners standing around refusing to clean it. With everything going on with layoffs and this and that right now , why act foolish? Those guys were wrong to sleep in their cars , plain and simple. No doubt someone dropped a dime on them , but they still put themselves out there to be exposed like that.

Sorry to say it , but my time got wasted last night because of some lazy cleaner who went and dozed off and I won't feel sorry for him if he gets laid off , union member or not.

The press and public are watching right now. It's a good time to be on top of our game collectively and not slacking off. People will notice. It's good to take personal pride in yourself and your job , especially working for an organization that is despised by the press and public. Stand out and shine , be on top of your game out there. I'm proud to be a motorman , I think everyone that works for the MTA and posts here feels the same about themselves and their titles. Spread the pride around , and you'll find not only the public will show us more respect , but the union membership will be stronger and solidify if and when all the inter-departmental bullshit ceases.

Yes, he lives in a luxury building in Tribeca for now...once the new governor takes office next January he will have to move out however. Best if he leaves NYC entirely as he is one of the most hated CEO's in America.

Can somebody confirm that he gets a $5k a week food allowance? i read that on buschat, lol, find it hard to believe. Maybe he uses most of that allowance on meth and crack?:) what says you?
