hoodciti Posted July 7, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 7, 2010 Why were the Orion 6.501 low floor buses retired? Was something wrong with them. I recall seeing a picture of them recently sitting in some lot upstate.

SevenEleven Posted July 10, 2010 Share #4 Posted July 10, 2010 they were really only a test order for what ended up being the flood of O7s that eventually came. ORION pulled the overall plug when it turned out the model in general was not living up to expectations. They're still around in WMATA and LAMTA service. It's just the MTA only bought a handful and figured taking care of them wasn't worth the trouble. Atleast it they didn't follow the route of the MTA's flexibles and randomly catch fire. Well remember that some units were purchased off NJT since the Orion VIs didn't pass the axle laws over there. Like you mentioned, they didn't do so well in service over here either.
