R10 2952 Posted July 8, 2010 Share #6 Posted July 8, 2010 This station is very dilapidated:eek: Not really. It's just somewhat dirty. But that shouldn't be surprising, considering that the station was opened in 1975.

MTR Admiralty Posted July 9, 2010 Share #16 Posted July 9, 2010 Nice:tup: You're welcome. The West Rail Line is actually a new addition to the system. It was part of the KCR network, which basically supplied suburban/intercity services. The KCR and the MTR merged on 2 December 2007 to form the new MTR. West Rail opened around late 2002 to 2003. Ridership was comparatively low, even when it had a large market (Tuen Mun, Tin Shui Wai and Yuen Long). The fares were actually slashed in order to draw riderships, still to the owner's dismay. Delays and track fires hampered the line further due to the great distance between Tsuen Wan West and Kam Sheung Rd. stations. It did link to the urban MTR lines when it opened (at two locations, Mei Foo to the Tsuen Wan Line and at Nam Cheong to the Tung Chung line). Though it did terminate in Kowloon, Nam Cheong (the then-terminus), was considerably far from the heart of Kowloon, such as Yau Tsim Mong and Kwun Tong. The Kowloon Southern Link which opened in August of last year, extended the West Rail Line to Tsim Sha Tsui East, and then assuming the East Rail Line's route to Hung Hom. Finally, there is an interchange between the East Rail Line and the West Rail Line. Patronage, thus, is expected to grow. A further plan would take the Ma On Shan Line into urban Kowloon, via the former Airport and Ma Tau Wai into Hung Hom (via the long discussed Sha Tin-Central Link, the Second Avenue Subway of Hong Kong) and then taking over the West Rail Line. When the plan is realised, the combined line would become the East-West Line, while the East Rail Line would be called the North-South Line. Also Citaro, can you not include someone's photo or video in your reply post? Because it does eat up the bandwidth here.
