SubwayGuy Posted July 9, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 9, 2010 CONEY ISLAND BOUND! Join us on our ever popular Boardwalk-bound Coney Island Nostalgia Train, made up of R1/9 cars of the Independent Subway System. We'll begin our excursion at the Transit Museum, where you'll have exclusive access to the exhibits and store before the Museum is open to the public. Then "all aboard" the trains on the Museum's platform level for a scenic, two-hour ride to Coney Island on tracks above and below ground. Visit the amusement park, take a dip in the ocean, and enjoy all the area has to offer, or stay on the train for additional rides. Baseball fans can skip the train ride back and attend a Brooklyn Cyclones vs. Staten Island Yankees game, which starts at 6 p.m. at nearby MCU Park. Cyclones game not included in tour price. $45, children (5 - 17) $20; Museum members $30, Children (5 - 17) $15 Includes New York Transit Museum admission. There are still a good number of tickets available for this one. Be advised this will be a fun trip. Coney Island is a great trip in the summer as many of you know, and this will be an opportunity to go with your friends and ride the train. Plus you all know I like to drive home the idea of doing other things with your life besides chasing trains and this is a chance to do just that. RIDE the train, then when you get to CI, forget all about it and go for a swim in the water (hey for some railfans that sounds a lot like a much needed shower - hopefully the water won't turn murky!), take a stroll around, and maybe even play some of the amusements there. Not to mention it's Coney Island so there will be some good looking women around, a chance for you all to show off your skills with women instead of useless knowledge about proposed car assignments that haven't happened yet and what line you think will be next to get R160's. And if you get digits (I'm talking about her number, folks, not a subway car number plate), you get to do it in front of all your railien friends. In all seriousness it'll be a fun day, and on top of that they're giving the option of staying for the baseball game which is a very affordable ticket, it's fun to do, and because it's the summer, they'll have the fireworks once the sun sets. The Cyclones (Mets affiliate) will play the Staten Island Yankees (Yankees affiliate). That's one of the reasons the 31st was picked. Also it seemed from June's trip a lot of people showed up the day of to buy a ticket, and some got in and some did not. However this trip, as it's not an old school "MOD" style trip is not going to be oversold the same way so if you want to go along for a ride on the Nines, it's a good idea to make a reservation by calling the number: 718-694-1867

INDman Posted July 10, 2010 Share #3 Posted July 10, 2010 I spent the day in Coney on Monday. It was a blast. I was very impressed with the new Luna Park. Did you see the LED sign on the front of the place?

SubwayGuy Posted July 11, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted July 11, 2010 I know some people will be chasing that train... That's pathetic. Why not ride? WTF is the point of chasing around a damn train the whole day just b/c they're too cheap to pay? It's not like the money is going to the TA, it goes directly to the museum which uses the money FOR the museum and to preserve the equipment so that trips can be run in the future. R110B Posted July 11, 2010 Share #7 Posted July 11, 2010 Indeed most people who can't afford the 45$ will chase the train because because its cheaper.
SubwayGuy Posted July 11, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted July 11, 2010 Indeed most people who can't afford the 45$ will chase the train because because its cheaper. Seeing some of the cameras they carry around, I bet that $45 is as much as a "hardship" as the students who cut class but walk around with Nintendo DS and iPads claim that $2.25 would be... SubwayGuy Posted July 11, 2010 Author Share #10 Posted July 11, 2010 Not for nothing but $45 is alot of money cuzzy I'm not saying it's not. The people I'm criticizing are the ones who have the money but choose not to pay it because "they'd rather chase it for free"
LRG Posted July 11, 2010 Share #11 Posted July 11, 2010 I'll just throw my two cents in: if you have the $45, get on the train because it's a good ride and everyone will get that WTF faces when they see those on the train pass by and they'll want to get on it next time around, sort of like a publicity stint lol. I'm sure there are people who aren't even railfans would be interested in getting on the train but if they barely see anyone on it then they're going to have second thoughts. The more people on it basically equals the more attention the train will get, and could equal more rides in the future.

I realise that $45 may be a lot of money for some, but those who take the attitude "I'll chase it instead", they'll be the first ones to cry if the museum cars never run again since YOU are not financially supporting them depriving you of your "free" pictures. Notice the numbers of "normal" small children that ride the trains with their "normal" parents.

LOL...I wouldn't blame you. However if you do decide to come and you recognize me feel free to say hello this time!!! All true. Many tickets sold for excursions are to non railfans. Notice the numbers of "normal" small children that ride the trains with their "normal" parents. Yup...I've told my cousin from Florida about my interest in the subway system and about the transit trips they offer...she said that if she and her parents came to New York in time she'd like to go on one of the trips. I'm jealous about the fact that she'd only have to pay 1/3rd of what I'll have to, but it's indeed worth the money so no complaining from my end. SubwayGuy Posted July 13, 2010 Author Share #19 Posted July 13, 2010 BTW this does promise to be an interesting trip. A little birdy mentioned that the lunch supplement run for the railiens will LIKELY include photo stops. And no one ask about the route yet because 1) it hasn't been finalized and 2) it's not going to get posted here when it does. Just pay to go and be surprised and enjoy yourselves. bklyntekgeek Posted July 18, 2010 Share #22 Posted July 18, 2010 True statement. I took the wife there a few times to the Transit Museum in the past and we still go there even till now. Of all the museums we been to, the Transit Museum is her fave and mine too. Simply because it's not so crowded with tourists and big crowds like the others. Also it's convenient, cheaper and you get to sit down at least and not have to worry about being yelled at for sitting on something "historical" because you're tired lol. Instead you're allowed to sit down in the actual exhibit on the seats and see the train from the passenger's point of view back when they were in service. Plus, it's a lot more quieter
R32 3838 Posted July 19, 2010 Share #23 Posted July 19, 2010 I agree with subway guy on that,Some railfans are too damn cheap, I didn't go on the Low V trip because of my own personal reasons, I like these trips because I just love when regular people look at our classic vintage equipment, I hate it when railfans foam over that damn window, When I go on these trips I enjoy it and Im greatful for riding the R1-9's, $45 is not bad, Like subway guy and bill mentioned, the money goes towards the musuem and the vintage equipment, If they ran the R10's with the 3 R16's, I wouldn't care if it was $70, I will go ride those cars because those are the subway cars I never rode and I would be more than happy to ride them, Rerember they don't have to run these trains at all, be greatful that they are doing these trips, Chasing the train is very stupid, espeialy when its hot like hell out there, you can do that when they do the drop offs are whatever.
