simmons Posted July 10, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 10, 2010 I just joined today...great site. Had recalled in the late 1960's the Conductor "ta" sleeve patch had ANOTHER semi-circle patch sewn above it. Don't remember if it said Conductor or Instructor, etc ?? Though no longer in use, how best to locate one for sale? Thanks!
INDman Posted July 10, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 10, 2010 Your best bet would be ebay, though I have never seen what your talking about. Another option would be knowing someone with a big personal collection of subway suff.

I've seen some people around with it, but getting it is no easy task. As the aforementioned poster said, your best bet is ebay.
simmons Posted July 10, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted July 10, 2010 The circular patch just has the standard "ta" in it. I am referring to and looking for a separate vintage patch in matching colors (half circle/cresent shape), that was sewn about 1/2" above the "ta" patch on the sleeve. The semi-circular lettering said either "Conductor or Instructor". Thanks again.

Zman Posted July 12, 2010 Share #6 Posted July 12, 2010 It was a silver patch with black letters and a yellow border which said TRAINER. It was used to signify a crew member who specialized in training new employees in his/her particular title.
SubwayGuy Posted July 12, 2010 Share #7 Posted July 12, 2010 You mean something like this (not mine, and some aspects of this image have been intentionally cropped out)?
simmons Posted July 13, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted July 13, 2010 The patch background was silver and the border blue. Not sure on the color of the lettering but I assume orange (the t.a. colors?). So where does one find an old one?
simmons Posted September 18, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted September 18, 2010 The NYCTA original conductor uniform issue (circa 1960's), included two sleeve patches. A rocker/semi-circular patch affixed above the circular "t.a." ensignia patch. This vintage embroidered patch, (now finally located), said "CONDUCTOR", with a blue border, blue lettering and an orange background field, using "t.a." patch color threads. It was sewn on the right sleeve 5/8" above the "t.a." patch, and apparently discontinued within a few years.
