if it wasn't for sandy and the need for the shuttle buses, would the older buses have been retired sooner or the new buses have been 'held up' a little longer till it was time to bump off the older buses?

I heard somewhere that the MTA is "keeping older buses past their service lives" because of Sandy, but I doubt that the new buses would have been affected.

I saw that as well, threw me real well. But weirdly they're now registered at CP again, so that was short-lived...

The same driver had 9871 on Monday and Tuesday...run 24 on the Q53.

As for Sandy, that may be the only reason that buses like the renumbered O5s and C40LFs, O5 CNGs and old C40LFs in Brooklyn, remain. I suspect that the last C40LFs at WF will be retired once the repainting of the O7 CNGs is complete.

9191 has been at LGA for a long time now... I rememer that bus clearly due to the stickers being messed up inside (Someone played with the number, instead of saying 9191 it says "191919", that crossed out and "91919 above it.
