Alright, here's the deal with these 1000s that I've managed to get so far:

1001 = 5355

1002 = 5252

1003 = 5431

1004 = 5437

1007 = 5447 (Possible)

1008 = 5475

1009 = 5500

1011 = 5467

5504 is awaiting its new number.

Such a horrible numbering scheme. It looks like they got whatever D60, regardless of its original number, was around and renumbered it in that sequence. It's all out of order, it aggravates my irrationality. 1011 was 5467, but 1009 was 5500? 1001 was 5535 but 1002 was 5252? Sloppy renumbering. Under the 1000 scheme, the least they could have done is put the lowest numbered D60, 5250 (even if it's retired or scrapped) as 1000 and then work their way up. 5252 would have been 1002, 5253 as 1003, and so on, you know, 4250 numbers down from the original number. 5509 would then be 1259 (okay, maybe not with the LFSAs taking that little space).

If they'd kept the 1300 scheme and not renumbered the Orion Vs 1305 and 1306, there would have been a nice space available. What they should have done is renumbered those Vs in the 1000s. 5250 could have been 1300, and it could have ended with 5509 as 1559. Now I don't know if all these D60s would have been reactivated, but my point still stands.

Curious: Q6/10 service mostly or are these Q52 buses?

All signs point to Q52 service. There hasn't been an artic on the Q10 since last week. I assume testing is over for that line.

-EDIT-

Taking the focus off of the JFK artics for a minute...but what the hell is going on here?

5512, 5520, 5522, 5529, 5534, 5593, 5594 & 5596 From TG/OH and GH to Quill

5253, 5830, 5833, 5840 and 5841 from Quill to TG/OH.

I'm glad Quill is getting their D60s back, but gotdamn, they're getting the shittier end of the deal with the TG/OH D60s.

It's a museum bus now. It's not active service anymore so no number conflict there.

Nice to know they saved one.

Agreed, or even the 9700s. That number group is still unused since the ex QSC RTSs were all retired. This renumbering makes no sense. At least pick a number set that isn't the same bus type that preceded it.

I said they should've been 1100s, but at the same time, as sloppy of a job this has been....this is smart thinking because these numbers can get recycled easily, just like how the newest LFSAs are numbered. After all, this is only temporary.

We do have another artic order in the near future which involves MTA Bus this time around.

I think they should've just used individual numbering for different bus types (use a prefix like Nv-Nova, Nf-new flyer, etc). This whole numbers recycling is just effing insane.

And I still think they should've left the xd60s at 1000 and go up which would've left a big batch of numbers to work with (eventually renumber the lfsa 1200s to the 5600s or 6000s).

MTA bus getting artics? How many years do they intend to keep the d60 hf? I would send the new buses to Manhattan/Bronx and push out the rest of the D60hfs.

As redundant as that idea has been (MTA Bus getting older buses as Transit gets newer buses), that could happen, but they are up in the next order. I would rather see MTA Bus actually getting newer equipment than to see them get more hand-me-downs.

Not even, their D60s and LFSAs are used 24/7. I don't think this is an aging fleet swap either. The buses from Gun Hill to Quill kinda makes sense to a certain degree, but the TG/OH & Quill swaps is a noggin scratcher.

5864 and 5888 from WF to TG/OH.

5938 and 5957 from TG/OH to WF. I had a feeling that this wasn't going to be anything of a mileage swap.

I'm guessing that the artics will replace all buses before 2000 that currently run at JFK,FR and BP. That would include the 31 RTS's at JFK the remaining 12 Orion V's at BP and the ones at FR. Afterward I bet BP, JFK and FR are going to bump some Orion VII's of to LGA and help retire some of the RTS's left. I know for a fact BP will because the Q111/Q113 require more than 12 buses artics to run so if they do then it will be about 15 hybrids from BP and 15 from JFK and maybe 10 from FR.

I knew something was up when I saw 5253 running on the 103 today, still wearing MJQ stickers though so I assumed it was a loan. Word completely with that last statement, I dig the D60s but the 100th buses are, generally, sh!t.

I haven't been near, or seen a recently renumbered bus in person so I pose this question...¿when they renumber a bus, do they change the bus number that's stamped on the license plate as well?

No they don't, and that is the way you can tell what the buses' previous number was. The stamp is only changed if the bus gets re-certified (gets one of those new yellow liscence plates)

Some notes:

5355 is now 1001

5431 is now 1003 (there is still a stray 5431 number on it)

5447 is now 1004

5500 is now 1009

1004 is 5437 5447 hasn't seen service for a loong time.

That's true. But as far as the hand me downs, i was thinking of giving mta bus the newest of the d60hfs. But that's just my opinion. jFK and lga haven't been great with their buses, at least if they got the older buses, not a big loss.

Excellent job on the list and the updates as always, but one thing: 1011 is not 5467. 5467 was a blackback and it had different plates, so I think that's gotta be a different bus.
