Is this ec/lga swap going to still happen because it seems like its on hold for some reason.

Give it some time. The NG swap isn't gonna happen in one shot.

It sort of happened.

It's more of an evaluation at this point...to see if the Hybrids will hold up on the highway and such. Also, training operators on the Hybrids too. It's the "whole nine yards" before the FULL swap can take place. If this fails, then #5175-5199 will remain at Eastchester.

An evaluation? lol They've had hybrids elsewhere to use as a benchmark as to how they'll hold up on the highway and such...

3622 was already returned to JFK.

The others are at LGA, except 3616 - which is still at SC, on the B103 as I update this roster.

Roster updated.

its moved to LGA, in-service now Edited by CH3348

Correct. If it fails, then EC would just have to wait for brand new buses next year out of the order for 41.

Yes a full on evaluation of all scenarios needs to be conducted. Series Hybrids are not made for high speeds. However MTA has learned how to tweak the hybrids a bit to make them a bit more durable under these conditions. Just because we have had NG's 8 years doesn't mean anything. None of the drivers who have only worked out of EC in their career were trained on them. Same goes with the mechanics. These buses are very high maintenance, and the MTA needs to do things in a certain uniform order. It takes time to get everyone trained. If a bus breaks down right now, most of these guys don't have a clue as to how to fix it.

Overnight swaps and transfers are only possible when the majority of mechanics and drivers have been trained on a unit. Most people are wondering why this takes so long because you think a bus is a bus. It doesn't work like that. Any time a different or new model enters the picture, everyone has to be trained! The trainers even have to be trained. Once they are trained, each and everyone then need to take the bus out in passenger service to get a feel for them. The controls are different, the feel is different, and they have never had low floors or hybrid drives. They have to learn how to operate the ADA ramps, as they are used to lifts. Many drivers are not going to know that its not a good idea to kneel the bus for disabled passengers that require the ramp at some stops. A few will have to find things out the hard way. Then there is still the inevitable road-call. How many spare buses will they need until mechanics are pro's? Will they send buses to other depots for certain maintenance?

All these factors have to be accounted for, and contingency plans need to be made for every possible situation.

Looks like the ECH to LGA moves are starting to commence slowly.

Just give it time... There is not set schedule, just a tentative one.

7691 (and 7746) both were repowered with a Doosan GL11K engine and they have Allison transmissions now, instead of the usual ZF Ecomat.

7691 was out of service for quite some time (hearing different stories on why, but it wasn't running lol), but it's sitting in Gleason. Maybe for work, possibly actual service, too soon to tell yet.

Correct. It was just one of the many CNG's out of service. The XN40 pilots are on the way in a month to begin to kill them all off any way. Then the XN60's will seal the fate of the rest of them. Some of the buses MTA is going to elect to not even fix at this time.

XN40 news actually coming up this evening. I will link it when I am done posting.
