See: the summer is usually the best time not to send extra buses out with the exception of shuttles and beach getaways. Depots can free up buses for shuttle services and variants, which may include the July 4 fireworks. It virtually saves gas mileage and breakdowns, but however, they can spend the last weeks of inspecting buses for the fall

As I previously mentioned (yesterday at 7:16 PM), depots need fewer buses in the summer because school is closed.  These extras are going to depot like Grand and Fresh Pond for July and August for the M shuttle. Transferred buses will be returned in September, in time for school opening.
