Broadway Local Posted January 31, 2012 Share #79 Posted January 31, 2012 It's nice if the XDE40 has a BAE transmission, but I kind of like it with the Allison with smoother ride, performance, and passenger comfort.

BAE is a diesel electric propulsion system consisting of roof mounted battery packs, an extra generator in addition to the 24V alternator usually found in buses, a traction motor, and a control unit to tie it all together. The MTA has yet to test the Allison "hybrid" system.

The MTA has yet to test the Allison "hybrid" system. The MTA demo tested the Allison system in a Gillig, and again in the XDE40. They are also supposed to be testing it on the BTE order for 90 DE60LFR's this year.
