asidrane Posted August 5, 2010 Share #1 Posted August 5, 2010 If an IRT train were to run on IND/BMT tracks, how much room would there be between the train and the platform edge? Getting on an uptown 4 at Union Square this morning, I noticed that the gap between the platform and door must be at least 5 inches.
NX Express Posted August 5, 2010 Share #2 Posted August 5, 2010 There would be a bit more than ~6 inches of gap if the platform was straight and the train lined up perfectly.
lilbluefoxie Posted August 5, 2010 Share #3 Posted August 5, 2010 id say 11-12 inches, since the B-div cars are 10 feet wide and the IRT cars are 8 feet wide
NX Express Posted August 5, 2010 Share #4 Posted August 5, 2010 According to Wikipedia (yes, I know, good source), it's 8.60 feet and 9.77 feet.
Melvin Posted August 5, 2010 Share #5 Posted August 5, 2010 Width is 10.0 feet exactly for a R160 Width is 8 to 9 1/2 feet depending curvature of train car for a R142. You do the math.
SubwayGuy Posted August 5, 2010 Share #6 Posted August 5, 2010 Width is 10.0 feet exactly for a R160 Width is 8 to 9 1/2 feet depending curvature of train car for a R142. You do the math. False. IND/BMT cars ARE 10' (feet) wide, that part you are correct about. IRT cars vary slightly but are approximately 8 and 3/4 feet away. In the case of the R142's the document you posted says they are 8 feet and 9 1/2 inches wide. Which is approximately 8 and 3/4 feet. When reading those... ' = feet " = inches
asidrane Posted August 5, 2010 Author Share #7 Posted August 5, 2010 So I guess we are looking at about an 8 inch gap. Thanks.
