Harlem shootout gunman who lived through 21 shots probably broke record

The gunman who survived at least 21 bullet wounds in a Harlem shootout with cops probably broke a record, a forensic expert said Sunday.

"I would say more than 20 gunshot wounds is a record," said Dr. Vincent DiMaio, 69, a forensic pathologist and author of "Gunshot Wounds: Practical Aspects of Firearms, Ballistics, and Forensic Techniques."

"Of course, the real issue is where you get shot," he added. "One bullet can kill you, but believe it or not, a body can survive a lot of bullet wounds."

Angel Alvarez, 23, shot Luis Soto of the Bronx before falling in a hail of gunfire in a wild shootout with NYPD officers early Sunday, police said.

It should have been 100 shots, its dark outside and your life is in danger from a gunman threatening your own life. Please I hope this doesn't go into Sean Bell territory.
I just hope this Guy recovers there is always two sides to every story I will wait and see before I make a rush to judgement

Oh and another thing I just love when people justify the NYPD's actions when their actions hurt your bottom line meaning your wallet because at the end of the day when they payout from those lawsuits the city has to find away to recoup their loses

just goes to show you how dumb NYC cops are. They have all of this weapons training yet there were 46 shots just from officers alone.... pathetic. This is like Sean Bell, all of those shots for nothing. A real marxman would have ended it with no more than 5. I mean really, the standards are so low for NYC police officers its not even funny.

Once your life is in danger, your adrenaline gets pumping like crazy and it is extremely easy to just keep squeezing that little trigger if you don't have an extreme of training and experience. It is something you just can't simulate in a training experience precisely because it is not real.

I can't justify that because there have been situations where officers have fired upon someone 3-6 times and stopped the threat as they would like to call it

now watching WPIX lastnight they reported that the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner autopsy of the guy who was supposdly shot dead by the guy who was shot by the police 21 times was actually shot dead by a police officer the NYPD has some explaining to do the report states that the bullet was from a service revolver SMH

Definitely true- my suspicion is that there was an intense confrontation right before this shooting, possibly rookie officers, and the combination of darkness and multiple people starting to shoot at once led to all the excess energy that resulted in so many shots. That unfortunate combination is the one that is hard to replicate in training.

You arm chair Quarterbacks make me laugh. I would bet if any of you were in the exact same situation, one of two things would happen. Either you would freeze up and be shot, or see a threat and empty your clip. I know if it were me, my belief in the situation would be, you can try me as many times as you want, but you can only bury me once. If I see a threat, such as a gun pointed at me, I am shooting until he stops moving.

I bet now when the guy who got shot 21 times drinks a glass of water, it flies out of him like a sprinkler. He could have a new nickname too. Swiss cheese.

I totally agree, but I guess people think life is a game of "Grand Theft Auto" and they can shoot at police officers without serious consequences.

This story has so many twists and turns. According to witnesses the gun didnt even belong to the guy that supposedly shot the other guy, he wrestled it from the other guy and it never went off. Then the NYPD supposedly opened fire.

I don't know, this is confusing.

@ The above poster: This is the first I'm hearing about someone shooting at the police. A lot of the time it's the reverse of what you said.
