That is correct, TA passes are not valid on SIRTOA, but you can use them on the buses. It's definitely a head scratcher.

its soo dumb ! I dont mind because I dont really use because of that but....i wouldnt mind taking the train sometimes if we didnt have to pay !

BINGO!

You SHOULDN'T have to pay. Do SIR employees have to pay when they ride (MTA)(NYCT) buses?

Both should ride each other for free.

In theory, they do pay. A SIRT pass would be rejected on an NYCT farebox. Each sub-agency within the MTA has their own deals worked out. TA/OA passes are valid on all NYCT buses and the subway. SIRT employees have a pass for the SIRT, MTA Bus have a pass for their buses (which don't work on TA buses). LIRR and MN have a pass for their respective systems too.

I'm not sure how it worked for employees at the Ballpark SIRT station since I believe the fare was collected there using a bus farebox.
