If You Could Build A New York City Subway Car.......

Recommended Posts

Bring back offset doors in B division trains, investigate articulated trains, bring back bullet signs and place them where R44-R68 and R62 signs are placed and they can be some sort of LED, put the train bullets on either side of the door so you can look at either side and tell one route from the other if they use the same equipment. Exterior of the cars can evolve from R142/R143 look of current NTTs, perhaps have changeable color LEDs near doors on exterior or running throughout to indicate route color. Don't make more R142/R143 styled cars, change the interiors somewhat, there's too much of that look now also go for nicer lighting, bright but softer and warm up the feel of the trains.

Next new trains to run on E and F lines and 1,2 and 4,6 if they are as efficient as possible. High-volume lines need most efficient, most reliable equipment. A and C should get upgraded trains, especially A.

My ideal train would be the following:

1. 75 foot long R160 with 5 doors

2. Colored LCD screens on the first and last cars instead of the red ones currently there

3. "Accordians" that connect the train cars for safe passage when going from one car to another.

Why would you want offset doors? I kinda like how it is now with the doors lined up as it is. It's 'uniformed' ;)

Not sure about articulated, but given how sets are linked, they may as well be articulated. Not sure about if they should share a truck [triplexes] or just have the articulated segment for the section connecting the two cars.

Agreed, at a distance it is still hard to tell the difference b/w an (E) or (F) train.
