East New York 4,103 Posted August 19, 2010 Share #1 Posted August 19, 2010 By Brian Moylan, Aug 18, 2010 07:27 AM A Southwest Airlines flight attendant took custody of a child after her mother slapped her because the girl wouldn't stop crying. God, what is going on with flights these days? It's like the Wild West out there! Just days after Steven Slater made headlines for flamboyantly abandoning a JetBlue flight, flight attendant Beverly McCurley issued her own brand of frontier justice and took an 13-month old away from her arguing parents. Apparently, on a flight to Albuquerque, the child started crying which started a fight between her parents. Several passengers and McCurley saw the mother Lee Ann Cid, strike her daughter in an attempt to stop her crying. McCurley then intervened and took the child from the couple and walked to the back of the plane, although she later gave the child back to her father, and he managed to get the baby to fall asleep. The parents were met by police at the Albuquerque airport, but were released and allowed to continue to their final destination without any charges filed. Damn, we don't know which is worse, parents hitting their kids in public or flight attendants empowered to play Department of Child and Family Services while in the air. One things for sure—we're booking Amtrak! Chick here for video news footage. Scroll to bottom of page.

FamousNYLover 578 Posted August 20, 2010 Share #4 Posted August 20, 2010 That mother is terrible. If I was that baby, I will cry in pain.

It's not good to be such a wimp by crying in pain like you just said. If that was my mother i would punch her in the face and make her bleed by breaking her neck in public and will also spit in her face to make embrassed.

You were crying about a stolen metrocard a couple weeks ago and now you tough? Go do something productive with your life and stop trying to be tough shit on the internet. How is slapping the child suppose to make it stop crying? As for the mom hitting the kid, it will actually make the crying stop. "If you don't stop crying, Imma hit you harder..." = no more crying. Except the thought of getting hit makes the child even more upset. But I'm not a parent, so I'll never understand the logic behind that.

They were both wrong. Parent and flight attendant. Parent shouldn't be smacking a 13-month old child. You want the kid to stop crying, comfort and/or feed it. The flight attendant had no right touching the kid. They are not police.

That is, of course, ignoring the fact that a baby is too weak to do much harm.

"If you don't stop crying, Imma hit you harder..." = no more crying. How about this classic! "If you don't stop crying, I will give you something to cry for!" I'm a parent, so I do know that sometimes you do need to come up with alternative forms of punishment. However, I would never smack a 13 month old in the face.
