Water Intrusion Problem, might spread to affect train service

NX Express

Recommended Posts

Due to a water intrusion problem at the 53rd Street-Lexington Avenue Station, escalator #245 is temporarily out of service.

Customers are advised to avoid the 3rd Avenue Exit at this time.

I hope this is not going to mess up the 53 Street tunnel during the peak of the rush hour.

It has nothing to do with train service.

If all the elevators are out of service, the 53rd Street- Lexington Avenue Station will not be accessible. Accessible stations are better for the elders.

We are talking about escalator problem, not elevators; it has not affected...

The problem was:

Late last night, contractors installing new cables struck a concrete viaduct under the mezzanine floor causing flooding.

Contractor will repair damage overnight. Elevator & Escalator staff are working to bring escalator #245 back by tomorrow.

*Water resulting from a breach like this would be intrusion*
