Abba 132 Posted August 24, 2010 Share #1 Posted August 24, 2010 Manhattan-bound Q trains skip DeKalb Av Late Night, Aug 24 - 27, 12:15 AM to 5 AM, Tue to Fri Could the actually skip Dekalb on the express track, or is it just bypassing it?
Alex L. 3 Posted August 24, 2010 Share #2 Posted August 24, 2010 Skip/bypass...no difference. The Q will not stop at DeKalb while operating on its normal track.

Brighton Local 703 Posted August 24, 2010 Share #6 Posted August 24, 2010 If the is split in 2 sections; 1) 57 St/7 Av to Pacific St & 2) Atlantic Av to Stillwell then the Manhattan-Bound will take off from the Coney-Island-Bound Express Track at Pacific St, not the Manhattan-Bound.

No, the GO was just called on about 30min ago. Trains operate from 57/7 to PACIFIC St and from ATLANTIC Ave to Coney Island.

I thought when they have this G.O.(Q)trains from Manhattan would run to Stillwell via Fourth Ave as well.Or at least it used to be like this. CenSin 3,408 Posted August 24, 2010 Share #11 Posted August 24, 2010 I've always wondered how the segment between Atlantic Avenue and Coney Island operated. Where do they turn around trains at Atlantic Avenue? There are no switches between the north and southbound tracks there. Do they single track until Parkside Avenue? Eric B 1,073 Posted August 24, 2010 Share #12 Posted August 24, 2010 Single tracking from north of Prospect Pk. to Atlantic.
2 Train Master 85 Posted August 24, 2010 Share #13 Posted August 24, 2010 Just like how the (A)/© bypassed Bway-Nassau Fulton St on some weekends same thing.
CenSin 3,408 Posted August 24, 2010 Share #14 Posted August 24, 2010 Single tracking from north of Prospect Pk. to Atlantic. At a major station like that, they should've just installed a switch.
NX Express 292 Posted August 24, 2010 Share #15 Posted August 24, 2010 At a major station like that, they should've just installed a switch. IMO, a reverse-direction switch is not needed two stops apart. Whenever they do this GO (late night), reduced headways are adequate enough. CenSin 3,408 Posted August 24, 2010 Share #16 Posted August 24, 2010 IMO, a reverse-direction switch is not needed two stops apart. It's not the number of stops, but the distance.
Eric B 1,073 Posted August 25, 2010 Share #17 Posted August 25, 2010 Plus the fact that they used to do this GO all weekend! However, it would seem to be hard to install a switch near there. A lot of walls and space (rooms, etc?) between the tracks. Would be a lot of construction and reinforcing of the tunnel. Could be done, but they're not going to invest such money for just an occasional temporary reroute.
