Shortline Bus Posted August 30, 2010 Share #1 Posted August 30, 2010 Not sure where it goes since it involves all of the regional commuter rail lines? Such as Railroads(LIRR/Metro North) SEPTA, (NJT)NJ Transit, etc. Why is seat checks still used to verify what station a passenger is going to? With all of the technology available could not a computer print out be easier. I ask this as several times I boarded a Northbound(Poughkeepsie)MNRR train at station such as Croton Harmon and Peekskill(after transfering from the Beeline #14 Bus)and I got a free ride as the Conductor takes off the seat check. Also heading NYC bound i saved about $3.00 several times as the conductor when I boarded at either Poughkeepsie or New Hamburg gave a ticket for Marble Hill station in Bronx which is zone 2. Instead I got a seat check for GCT. Ditto for (NJT)as couple of times heading back to Manhattan(NY Penn Station)i gave a ticket for Newark Penn Station w/ plans to transfer to Path and instead I got a NY zone seat check. Is that not also wasting the regional railroads thousands of dollars each year for the wrong zone?
