College student discounts?

Amid all the fare hikes and service cuts, are there any plans to offer discounted tickets to college students?

Many railroad systems in the US like the MBTA offer reduced fares, and all of Central Europe offers drastically reduced fares. This relieves financial pressure on students to allow them to more accessibly learn and train themselves for entry into the workforce. This is particularly important for low-income students, who already must pay for tuition and books. A full-time student salary already makes it necessary to live in the worst areas of the city on a threadbare budget, unless given support by family.

So my question is, why am I paying the same fare as a business commuter making 200,000 a year? How much would it really cost the MTA to give up part of their college student transit fare? As a public-benefit corporation, it doesn't seem to have the public benefit in mind. Thoughts?

Reduced fares for college students? It's bad enough the Department of Ed owes the MTA millions upon thousands of dollars for giving K-12 students free and discounted MetroCards...do you want the fare to go up to $4???
