TrainFanatic 1 Posted August 31, 2010 Share #7 Posted August 31, 2010 Hmm that doesn't look like 15mph leaving the station or anywhere close... looks like someone was playing cowboy Lol. If I knew I could gain that much speed, I wouldn't go by the rulebook. Why is their such a rule thou? Why cant t/o's just skip the station without having to leave at less than 15 mph? SubwayGuy 2,321 Posted August 31, 2010 Share #8 Posted August 31, 2010 Lol. If I knew I could gain that much speed, I wouldn't go by the rulebook. Why is their such a rule thou? Why cant t/o's just skip the station without having to leave at more than 15 mph? Then odds are you'd be out of a job before too long. See http://www.nyctransitforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23054 The reason for the 15MPH rule is because the signal system is designed to assume that trains are starting from a stop at local stations. If the train goes bombing through at full speed, the signals are not designed for that situation. Designing them for that situation would slow the system down further, so that's not a reasonable option either. That's probably the simplest explanation I can give you without giving too much detail of signals.
