Shortline Bus Posted September 4, 2010 Share #1 Posted September 4, 2010 Simple question guys. Should both the Jay St/Lawerence St and Bleecker/Bway-Lafayette Stations be renamed? As most of you are aware, those 2 stations are being renovated & having bulit a new subway transfer connection added. IMO, both of them should be renamed to the following. Houston St/Bway station ( Jay St & Lawerence Transit Center. since Brooklyn Borough Hall is 2 blocks away. Plus the former (NYCT) headquarters is located there. The is already planning to rename the Bway-Nassau station on the lines into the Fulton Transit Center so why not these 2 stations? What you guys think? Jay Street–Borough Hall is—in fact—Lawrence Street on the R160 trains. Have you been on an rerouted to Euclid Avenue?

The signs with Jay St-Metrotech are already up at street level on some entrances, and yes Borough Hall and Lawrence will be dropped. No word yet on whether any change will take place with Bway-Laff or Bleeker.

R32 3348 Posted September 4, 2010 Share #8 Posted September 4, 2010 They're already naming Jay St to Jay St - MetroTech so there's nothing worth discussing there. As for Bleecker/ Broadway-Lafayette, they don't have to have the same name considering they run perpendicular to each other. Most transfers between two separate lines in Manhattan aren't named after one station since they run on perpendicular lines (ex - 51st St. (6)/Lexington Ave. , 6th Ave. (L)/14th St. , 42nd St. ((M)/5th Ave. , etc.). Kriston Lewis Posted September 25, 2010 Share #9 Posted September 25, 2010 They're already naming Jay St to Jay St - MetroTech so there's nothing worth discussing there. Speaking of which, new column signs are up that read "Jay Street-MetroTech". MetroTech is obscured by a piece of tape on the northbound platforms, while it's out in plain view on the southbound platforms.

Why must you add the name transit center to everything? Broadway/Bleeker should stay as is. Jay St should be "Jay St - Metrotech". That's it. Similar to White Plains Transit Center. MNR <> Bee-Line/TZXpress/I-Bus, etc.

Tokkemon Posted September 25, 2010 Share #14 Posted September 25, 2010 If you think about it, New York is one of the few systems that doesn't have a true transit center. There's several hubs that would qualify on their own, but as part of the whole, not really.
checkmatechamp13 Posted September 25, 2010 Share #15 Posted September 25, 2010 Agreed. By the standards of other transit systems, NYC has many stations that could be considered "Transit Centers" in terms of the frequency and number of the bus routes available. Some of the smaller ones that could probably fit the definition of "Transit Center" are: Norwood-205th Street Kings Highway (:)/(Q) Crown Heights-Uica Avenue (3)/(4) Fordham Metro-North station Simpson Street Parkchester-East 177th Street (6)/<6> Westchester Square-East Tremont Avenue (6)/<6> Gun Hill Road (2)/(5) All of the stations on 125th Street in Manhattan Rockaway Blvd and of course the big ones like Broadway Junction, Coney Island, etc.
