FamousNYLover Posted June 20, 2012 Share #501 Posted June 20, 2012 (edited) Yes, It will be difficult. I have seen larger school bus got stuck between Catherine and Henry Sts while trying to make turn in narrow streets. I even remember Grayline Tour bus turning right from southbound narrow Whitehall St onto westbound Bridge St got stuck and some Tour Dispatcher had to come help the driver. TrainFanInfinity Posted June 22, 2012 Share #502 Posted June 22, 2012 First off, I'm pretty sure that 59th Street cannot be used eastbound between 2nd and 1st Avenues. It's a one-way entrance ramp to the 59th Street Bridge from 1st Avenue. Secondly, you should really just run the M6/M6A along 57th Street to help provide relief for the M31/M57 in addition to giving access to Midtown to East 57th Street. I don't know why you want them to have such a complicated loop using streets that people use to access the bridge. Those are traffic nightmare spots. M6 response: - Nobody will ride the bus in Midtown with such an inconvenient routing. Keep it on 5th instead of sending it up 33rd just to get another portion of Broadway. - 29th Street? Keep buses off of local side streets because one double parked car or truck can mess everything up. M6A response: Also: - West 4th Street is a narrow road - MacDougal Street is a narrow road - Assuming that a bus can make it onto West 4th Street, there's absolutely no way that it'll be able to make a right onto MacDougal. Okay, I saw your responses and I'll change the routes.

I just looked at the routing, I'd run Q81X buses that use the Bruckner and Throgs Neck service roads and make no stops in the Bronx.
TrainFanInfinity Posted July 23, 2012 Share #515 Posted July 23, 2012 The Q81 is similar to a bus route I was thinking of, a +Select Bus Service+ Q76 route from Pelham Bay Station to Springfield Gardens, but I decided it was too long. And NO, I am not copying, but I actually was thinking about that, before you posted it.
engineerboy6561 Posted July 23, 2012 Share #516 Posted July 23, 2012 (edited) I just looked at the routing, I'd run Q81X buses that use the Bruckner and Throgs Neck service roads and make no stops in the Bronx. I was toying with that idea for a while, but I figured that the second major function of the Q81 (other than as an airport service bus) was to provide a better link between the Bronx and eastern Queens, especially southeastern Queens. Running buses with no stops in the Bronx would partially defeat that purpose, and it would also eliminate the new one-seat ride from Tremont Av and part of Crosby Av to Pelham Bay Park (and we could also entertain the idea of a few shoppers' specials to/from Bay Plaza on Saturday and Sunday afternoons). I eventually settled on running six buses (three during morning rush and three during evening rush) via the Clearview Expressway and Hollis Court Blvd as far as Jamaica Av, providing direct service between Queens Village/Springfield Gardens/etc. and the Bronx. That said, I have two trips in the afternoon (and two in the morning going the opposite direction) from Truman High School that stop at Bartow/Edson Avs and Pelham Bay Park; it would be worth a try to run them without stops in the Bronx and see what happens (especially since there are 4-5 minute frequencies so those buses probably wouldn't be missed). The Q81 is similar to a bus route I was thinking of, a +Select Bus Service+ Q76 route from Pelham Bay Station to Springfield Gardens, but I decided it was too long. And NO, I am not copying, but I actually was thinking about that, before you posted it. No worries, I believe you . As for the idea, the thought of sending something over the Throgs Neck Bridge has been kicking around in my head for a while too, especially since so many kids who go to Bronx Science tend to live in eastern Queens (especially parts of Bayside, Oakland Gardens, Fresh Meadows, etc.) and their parents wind up shelling out $5000+ per year for private bus service (Vallo Transportation) because getting from those parts of Queens to the Bronx is a tough proposition. The Q81would cut travel time from Oakland Gardens to Bronx Science from around 2:00-2:15 down to 1:15-1:30 (if a few northbound school specials are run early enough to connect to the Bx26 around 6:50-7:00AM) and makes it a one-fare ride. Furthermore, something like that would make it feasible to live in the east Bronx and work in or around the airport. Currently, getting to JFK Airport from Pelham Bay takes a good two hours or more by subway, and about 2:15 by bus (as well as two or more fares, especially if you use the AirTrain), while the Q81 would make it about 1:25-1:35 (1:00-1:15 if you catch one of the morning or afternoon express trips). RTS CNG Command Posted August 10, 2012 Share #520 Posted August 10, 2012 I read on here and other threads a while back regarding a replacement of the Bx20 called the Bx7A. Well, I'll expand this a tad by have the Bx7 and 7A extend to the Yonkers MNRR, while the 7A's southbound terminal is now 168th Street.

RTS CNG Command Posted August 11, 2012 Share #522 Posted August 11, 2012 Bx7 doesn't need that musch service in Manhattan, though... Probably not, but hey, this is mostly done out of pure fantasy, though. Speaking of fantasy, a new idea I have is the B76: This route combines the old B77, a portion of the Park Slope section of the B61, and a portion of the B23 into one route. In this idea, the B61 would be truncated back to the Ikea Terminal only, with the B67 extended to Flatbosh Avenue and Cortelyou Road to connect better with the B41 and B49.
