Another idea:

The Bx8A: This bus goes from Williamsbridge to the Country Club. Like the current Bx8 (before returning to the route before June 27th), it'll go through Pelham Bay and down Bruckner Blvd. However, instead of using the eastern end of the Club both ways, the Bx8A uses the CClub route of the Bx14 and then turning back around.

The Bx45: This bus goes from the GW Bridge Terminal and heads down to Port Morris/old Walnut Depot via Third Avenue.

What if Third Avenue were made into an +SBS+ corridor, and you had the route combined with the M15 +SBS+? From Fordham Plaza to South Ferry, the trip would be about 2 hours, comparable to the M5 route.

Hmm... would a SBS Express service make sense? :D That's one hell of as long route.

^ Actually...I didn't think of that. I thought more along the lines of a plain SBS, really.

Okay, since I'm in a bus route-making mood…

1. The M26 LTD: part-time during the weekday rush hours. This route goes from Grand Central to South Ferry via West Street and Battery Park City. Runs both ways from 7 AM to 9:20 AM and 3:30 PM to 6:50 PM with fifteen- to thirty-minute headways in the afternoon and twenty-minute ones in the morning. The route goes like this:

Downtown:

a. Route goes down 42nd Street (stops: Grand Central, 5th Avenue, Times Square)

b. Down Seventh Avenue to 14th Street (stops: Penn Station, 23rd Street, 14th Street)

c. Down 14th Street (stops: 8th Avenue, 9th Avenue, 11th Avenue)

d. Down West St (no stops)

e. Down North End Avenue (stops: Vesey Street)

f. Down West Street, then turning to South End Avenue before returning to West Street (stops: South End Avenue, Battery Place)

g. Concluding at South Ferry.

Uptown:

a. Leaving South Ferry and heading to West Street (stops: S. Ferry, Battery Place, Vesey Street/N. End Avenue.

b. Up West Street before turning on 14th Street (stops: 11th Avenue, 9th Avenue, 8th Avenue; no stops along West Street).

c. Turns up 8th Avenue (stops: 23rd Street, Penn Station, 41st Street)

d. Down 42nd Street (stops: Times Square, Bryant Park, 5th Avenue, Grand Central)

I don't think it would be longer than the current M5, though.

The run from 149th Street to Gun Hill Road is about 50 minutes (from 149th Street to Fordham road, the trip is about 30 minutes). However, if travel times are reduced by 20% because of +SBS+, the time would be 24 minutes to Fordham Road and 40 minutes to Gun Hill Road.

The M15 +SBS+ takes about 75 minutes, and it takes about 10 minutes to get from 125th Street to 149th Street. If you only run the route to Fordham Road, the travel time would be 109 minutes, roughly the travel time of the full-length M5.

Things would be a lot simpler if they hadn't torn down the 3rd Avenue El.

That was my feeling too. A lot of these routes are just plain unrealistic.
We all know that. Many of our ideas are zany, crazy, ridiculous, and out of this world. And not one single (screw) was given. [/meme]

Yes, this is a hybrid thread of both fantasy and realistic routes. But for the most part, this deals with fantasy routes, so we're not trying to make sense for the most part.

As I'm still in a bus route-making mood again…

The S34: A local route that travels from the Port Richmond Terminal to Howland Hook and Western Avenue. The route goes like this:

1. Down Pt. Richmond Av. turns on Forest Av

2. Down Forest Avenue, then heading down Goethals Rd. N.

3. Turns on Western Av to its last stop.

The Eastbound route's the same, except going down Gulf Av. instead of Goethals.

Time to play further. :)

The M18: A revision of the old route. Instead of ending at 110th/5th Avenue, it ends at the M1's weekend terminal. Also, this bus will go up Morningside (like the M18's previous route) and onto Convent instead of twisting around Malcom X Mlvd, 116th, and Manhattan Avenue.

Another idea:

1. The M24: An SBS route that goes from 129th to South Ferry, borrowing the idea from Checkmate in another thread. This route combines the M20 and M104 as one route (their local counterparts remaining separate). How the stops would be is this:

Downtown:

a. 129th/Convent

b. 125th/Convent

c. 116th/B'way

d. 106th/"

e. 96th/"

t. Battery Pk City/South End Av.

Uptown:

a. South Ferry: The M15 SBS terminal

The route runs from 7:30 AM until 10:55 PM. Headways are ten minutes in the morning and afternoon rush hours, fifteen minues mid-day/early 'noon, and twenty minutes after the PM rush (8:15 PM onward). The route operates as a split from both Quill and Manhattanville.

---

The revised Bx23: A loop that goes from Country Club all around Co-Op City and back again. It uses up the old Bx23 loop and is extended into the Country Club, occupying the Club routing of the Bx14. Its terminal is Research Avenue near Ampere Avenue. It'll run out of MTA Bus's Eastchester Depot with twenty-minute headways in the late-mornings/early-afternoons and fifteen minute ones in rush hour. Rush hours, the route splits up, with one loop going into Section 5 and the other going into Sections 1 through 4. Unlike the Bx23, this route is full-time: sixty-minute headways during the late nights and thirty minutes in the late evenings.

About 6 years ago I heard that a route called N75 which would travel from Hempstead to Syosset was in planning stages, but there's been no recent information on this plan.

However, I do think Syosset needs bus service. I would call for an N75 bus which initially follows the N35 routing to Roosevelt Field, then the N78/79 routing to the Hicksville LIRR station, followed by the N48/49 routing to Jericho Turnpike before branching off on its own by turning East onto Jericho Turnpike and North onto South Oyster Bay Road before terminating at the Syosset train station. Bus stops east/north of Routes 106/107 would be as follows:

Jericho Turnpike & Merry Lane

Jericho Turnpike & Manors Drive

Jericho Turnpike & Marian Lane/Old Jericho Turnpike

Jericho Turnpike & Robbins Lane/Heather Lane

Jericho Turnpike & Eileen Way (Stone Hill at Muttontown)

Jericho Turnpike & Michael Drive/Saddle Lane

Jericho Turnpike & Oak Drive/Pond View Drive

Jericho Turnpike & Underhill Boulevard/Haskett Drive

Jericho Turnpike & Lafayette Drive/Greenfield Road (Syosset Hospital)

Jericho Turnpike & Burke Lane

Jericho Turnpike & Humphrey Drive/Bruce Street

Jericho Turnpike & Jackson Avenue

Jackson Avenue & Edward Avenue/Hillside Lane

Jackson Avenue & Dawes Avenue/The Mall

Jackson Avenue & Lewis Lane/Pine Road

Jackson Avenue & Telbrook Avenue/Lucille Drive

Jackson Avenue & Willis Avenue/Covenant Road

Jackson Avenue & Underhill Road (LIRR Syosset)
