The Bx2 (as the Bx1 local) would run between the Bronx HS of Science and 3 Avenue/149 Street only, making all stops. Service on 3 Avenue and on Sedgwick Avenue would be discontinued, except for run-ons and run-offs.
R32 3348 Posted September 8, 2010 Share #3 Posted September 8, 2010 I never understood why there were 2 routes along Grand Concourse when they are nearly the same route. They should be consolidated into one route but I'm not sure how service patterns in the Hub would turn out.
mark1447 Posted September 8, 2010 Share #4 Posted September 8, 2010 The Bx1 is used to run all over Concourse to/from Mott Haven and Riverdale. The Bx2 is used for those in Concourse who want access via The Hub or those on the hub who want Concourse instead of Bx19 to Bx1. It use to run via 165th St and Melrose but, because the damn city wanted a sh9tty plaza (Yes it is) in the hub, Bx2 was pushed to 149th Street then makes LTD stops along 149th to 3rd Avenue then runs on 3rd Avenue to Mott Haven for swapping with Bx1/2. I like the idea of the Bx1 running LTD and Bx2 Local, now the Bx2 can make all stops on Concourse instead of both Bx1/2 making similar to stops to the (. Now hoping one day the Bx40/42 would have something like that and the Bx19. As for the Q58, im so gonna check this out in Corona!

The Bx42 was originally a different route that ran only between Westchester Square and Throgs Neck via the Randall-Balcom housing project in Throgs Neck; that route was then merged into the Bx40. The Bx42 designation was then applied to trips via Randall-Balcom.
Princelex Posted September 8, 2010 Share #6 Posted September 8, 2010 Ever since they made those changes to The Hub, it makes sense for them to make one of the lines a full Limited and have the other be a full local. For once, I think the made a good move with this one.

They became Bx40(now), Bx42 and Bx8 in Throgs neck.

They became Bx40(now), Bx42 and Bx8 in Throgs neck. Yea i remember those days... the Bx40 had 3 branches. One branch is the present day Bx42 via Balcom Ave. terminating at Emerson and Harding. the next Branch is the present day Bx40 terminating at Fort Schuyler. and the last branch is the long forgotten Locust Point Branch via Edgewater Park. This branch became part of the Bx23 which eventually merged with the Bx8. When you think about it today's Bx8 is the merger of 4 different bus routes;the original Bx8, Bx14, Bx23 and Bx40 (Locust Point Branch). Making it one of the longest bust routes in the bronx. However, on the northern end, there are students living in Bedford Park that are zoned to a Junior high school on the other side of the reservoir (on 231st & Sedgwick), near the Bx2's terminus. Many often take the Bx1 & Bx2 to get to JHS 143.
