TransitGuy 1 Posted March 27, 2008 Share #1 Posted March 27, 2008 LIRR Train Derails at Jamaica Station Eastbound Long Island Rail Road Service is facing delays of at least an hour after the 9:35 a.m. train derailed at Jamaica Station. Eastbound service had been suspended out of Penn Station, but it was restored. Two trains "bumped into each other"-- the 9:35 a.m. out of Flatbush jumped the tracks when it hit the 9:34 a.m. to Huntington. Hundreds of passengers were unloaded from both trains and NYC Transit is honoring LIRR passes at Flatbush Avenue, Penn Station and Jamaica Station. While the MTA's service alert says "There are no reported injuries as a result of the derailment," the FDNY says there are 20 minor injuries. TransitGuy 1 Posted March 27, 2008 Author Share #2 Posted March 27, 2008 Here's another article with more photos: LIRR Trains Collide, Leading to Derailment NEW YORK (WCBS 880 / AP) -- Two Long Island Rail Road trains bumped eachother at Jamaica Station causing one train to derail and tying up eastbound service. Service is running, but with delays of 20 minutes. The railroad says the accident at 10 a.m. Thursday involved the 9:35 a.m. from Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn due in Hempstead. It jumped the tracks when it bumped a train alongside it, the 9:34 a.m. from Penn Station to Huntington. All eastbound service, which was suspended, was restored at 10:56 a.m. The New York City fire department spokesman Chris Villarroel said it was a ``minor low impact collision'' between two LIRR trains. The LIRR said no one was injured. Villarroel said passengers were checked at the platform as they got off the train.

Pablo M 201 35 Posted March 27, 2008 Share #4 Posted March 27, 2008 DA DAMN! I heard something about a derailment when I passing through Penn Station earlier but heard it wasn't serious. Man those workers at Penn were dead wrong. Even told me the wrong location, they didn't even tell me Jamaica!
KTrainExp 16 Posted March 28, 2008 Share #5 Posted March 28, 2008 How did this even happen anyways? Its not like the driver didn't see the other train...
TransitGuy 1 Posted March 28, 2008 Author Share #6 Posted March 28, 2008 I think it was just that the train was passing the switch and basically the last two cars of the hempstead bound train derailed and collided into a Huntington? bound train which was already stopped at the station.
