Lance Posted November 9, 2014 Share #479 Posted November 9, 2014 Not that we don't appreciate these photos, but perhaps you can just pick a couple of them rather than post every picture on NYCSubway.org's "Today in Transit Photography" page. MHV9218 Posted November 3, 2015 Share #482 Posted November 3, 2015 (edited) I had never realized just how bright some of the R33MLs were upon delivery and how much they stuck out--check out this genuinely beautiful, incredibly sharp film photos from David Pirmann's collection: Also, does anybody recognize this weird lower rollsign (route) on this R26? Another David Pirmann collection photo. Oh, and one amazing Joe Testagrose photo of an R15 in corporate livery. Note the rare original "M" logo that predates the "New York City" on the outsides and just says Transit. MHV9218 Posted October 11, 2016 Share #492 Posted October 11, 2016 Three very rare rollsign situations found while doing some nycsubway perusing. Single greatest archive around. An R14 fitted with new signs (extremely uncommon, as most were retired/confined to Shuttle service): (Doug Grotjahn) An R14 with the rare Astoria destinations printed on early signs: (David Pirmann collection) An R17 with the pre-1979 Vignelli rollsign still in place in 1985. The before was orange and the after was turquoise, but this was technically the right color. The larger print and Akzidenz font give it away. Here goes: This here shows the effects of the acid baths on the carbon steel cars back in the day-- all that brown is rust. By the early '80s a lot of R17s and some other IRT cars looked like they were disintegrating. Some folks on these boards complain about paper rollsigns on the trains today, but hey, a lot of trains didn't have any signs at all in the '70s and '80s... There were definitely R42s with blue doors pre-overhaul, and there were probably some R40 and R40Ms with blue doors, but green doors were definitely an anomaly. I know I've seen another picture somewhere of a set of R40s that actually had doors painted a darker green for some bizarre reason from around the same time period, but I haven't been able to locate it again. Either way, good to see some new photos shedding light on the nuances from the TA's old days. Again, as stated above, the photos are not mine; posted here for discussion/thread purposes only. R10 2952 Posted May 23, 2020 Share #500 Posted May 23, 2020 (edited) Did some more digging through the TA's Dark Ages, found absolute gold: Location: East New York Yard/ShopsPhoto by: Thomas LackerDate: 1/1985Notes: View from westbound train of East New York Yard Always assumed the R32s left the Eastern Division in late 1982, so initially I had doubts about the accuracy of the date, but then I found this- 6:25 to 19:45 in video, September 1984. Never knew R32s ran on the ; even seeing them on the back then is a bit unexpected because I thought most East New York R32s were shifted to the after 1975. Big surprise. That and the timers on the Williamsburg Bridge- I had assumed they were installed much later, in the '90s. What's also interesting is that despite all the passing trains, not a single R16 shows up, which is odd because ENY had R16s on the roster until 1987. Technically, they should have still been running when this video was taken. But great stuff anyway.
