MTARegional Bus Posted January 29, 2011 Share #132 Posted January 29, 2011 This is the 180th Street Bronx Park terminal. originally intended to extend farther north during construction but was changed into a terminal due to protests stating that the trains running over the park would be bad for animals in the Bronx Zoo. The line's extension is the reason for the S-curve north of the West Farms Square – East Tremont Avenue station. After the line's extension to Wakefield – 241st Street between 1917 and 1920, the Bronx Park spur was considered redundant, but was not closed and abandoned until 1952.

MTARegional Bus Posted January 30, 2011 Share #134 Posted January 30, 2011 It get better. This is IRT White Plains To 3rd Ave E connection in 3rd Ave This connection was built in 1904 to connect the 2nd and 3rd Ave El with the Westchester Ave extension of the IRT Subway. Upon completion of the Bergen Cut-off in 1918, this section of track would become a non-revenue emergency connection. This and the Bergen Cut-off structure were removed in 1950-52.Rising to the El level one can still see the shortened supports for former connections the Third Avenue El. PATCOman Posted January 31, 2011 Share #137 Posted January 31, 2011 I thought 5 Avenue/53 Street had the traditional IND tiles. Was that pic during renovation?

R32 3348 Posted February 1, 2011 Author Share #139 Posted February 1, 2011 I thought 5 Avenue/53 Street had the traditional IND tiles. Was that pic during renovation? The lower level probably did. IDK if the 53rd St. stations were renovated in the 80s or the 90s so I can't answer that question.
PATCOman Posted February 1, 2011 Share #140 Posted February 1, 2011 I know the tower at the upper level still has the traditional IND tiles. You can see a glimpse of it when the or leaves 5 Avenue.

Princelex Posted February 1, 2011 Share #142 Posted February 1, 2011 These pics are nothing short of amazing. I'm a kid back in that time again seeing many of these pics. I kinda miss those days, especially seeing the subway transform from super dirty to tolerable to pretty good. Thanks for sharing these pics with all of us. This has made my day!
