Trainmaster5 Posted October 22, 2010 Share #1 Posted October 22, 2010 This Election Day I urge all forum members, who can, to get out and vote. Since everyone here is interested in some form of transportation I think it's in our best interest to show the politicians that this issue is a priority with you, your family, and your community. It does not matter if you are a Democrat, Republican, Green, Independent, Tea Party, whatever. There are politicians of all stripes who've shown their support, or disdain, for transportation issues from Amtrak, freight, commuter rail and bus as well as infrastructure. I urge you to look at candidates, not as party label, ethnicity, neighborhood, but rather what he/she has done for or against transportation issues in your state, community, or the whole USA. The honorable Joe or Jane Politico who got funding for that shiny new ballfield or senior center in your neighborhood right before the last election may not have your best interests in mind at other times. I urge you to take the time to study the candidates thoroughly and CAST YOUR VOTE.

I urge you to take the time to study the candidates thoroughly and CAST YOUR VOTE. This is must read material. Nominated for Sticky. And remember all you young people, don't vote for someone just because they built a senior center and encourage all the seniors to play Bingo. We need politicians who are going to look after the young because as any of the old timers will say, we will have to work much harder and longer than our parents and grandparents ever did, for a lot less money than they ever made. The current course of this country, thanks to the rich and their cronies, is headed downhill and we will pay the price for it. To change that, we have to elect people who have OUR best interests at heart, not big business's, and not their own political agendas. Pol's care about helping seniors because SENIORS VOTE. Our generation routinely votes in lower numbers than other demographics. Which means if you get out there and vote, eventually they will have to notice us. They will have to do something for US. IF they want our vote. And then WE have the power to hold them accountable, which we don't when half of us stay home on election day. We can demand measures to better our lot, and the size of our voting block can scare the pol's into throwing us a bone here and there, which is more than they do now. So...VOTE. Know who you are voting for, and know why.
SubwayGuy Posted October 22, 2010 Share #3 Posted October 22, 2010 I'm also going to add an opinion spoken AS a young person TO young people: -Vote for small government in your personal lives and small business -Vote for big government when it comes to regulating banks, big biz, and financial institutions. -Vote against measures that benefit the rich, and for measures that benefit the WORKING and MIDDLE class. -Vote for protectionism, against free trade, and against anything that helps foreign countries and companies. America needs to fix its own house before fixing the neighbors' -Vote against war, overseas troops, and for defense. Enough Americans have died overseas. Let's defend our borders and our landmarks, not anyone else's. -Vote against bleeding heart measures too, the time has come to cut the fat. You will all thank me twenty years from now if we do. *Disclaimer: You are free to disagree with me, but I don't really want to hear it in this thread. The main idea is to educate yourself - not from the media but broadly - and learn how to make a political decision and make it. And be able to walk out of the voting area (since it's illegal to do so in the voting area), and be able to explain why you voted the way you did making sound arguments. If you can do that, then that's a good thing and it's one less moron in society. Here's to small victories.
East New York Posted October 22, 2010 Share #4 Posted October 22, 2010 Between now and November 2, I will post several videos on hot topics. Most all will come from both MSNBC, and Fox News, in order to fairly highlight the opinions of both conservatives and liberals. This thread will be for discussions on all things political. Please keep it clean, and respect each others personal opinions. We (NYCTF Staff) reserve the right to delete any inapropriate posts on the spot without warning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFdAZK1vIZs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXggsx3wlQo
