aemoreira81 Posted October 22, 2010 Share #2 Posted October 22, 2010 Nice flashback! However, on the 1860-2039 batch, it's actually about 100 in service.

Joel Up Front Posted October 23, 2010 Share #7 Posted October 23, 2010 I did a bit of Google digging and found an old thread on here of a 2001 LI roster, [unnamed] being roasted on SubChat, and nice photos of the old private LI operators. I do believe that all the former private operators on LI are long and gone, along with their personnel and buses... enough out of me about LIB. Didn't the RTS buses have problems with their wheelchair lifts?
aemoreira81 Posted October 25, 2010 Share #8 Posted October 25, 2010 Got me excited with the "systemwide" thing. No one has any LIB rosters from the 1990s? Not a precise roster, but at the time, there were Gilligs in the low 500s (20 35-footers and 42 40-footers) from 500-561, diesel Orions 579-599 (1989) and 600-655 (1991), CNG Orions 656-666 (1992), and then 35 CNG buses from 101-141 were coming in brand new in 1996. Also around in 1996 were some 4200s (ex-NYCT/MaBSTOA 1981 GMC RTSs), some 5309s and 5310s in the 5300-5500 series (ex-NYCT, with many gaps and all over the place), Grumman 870s in the 700s and 900s (many retired by that point) along with Flxible Metro-As in the 1000 series (34 in all). 142-245 and 270-287 would spell the end for the fishbowls, the RTSs, and the 870s/Metro-As. (And to think that for four years in the mid-2000s (from 2004 until 1700 came in in late 2008 except for the now-defunct N53, there was only one model of bus for LIB regular service, along with a handful of 600-series diesels.) The 1800s at LIB today fill in the function of the 600-series diesels.
Joel Up Front Posted October 25, 2010 Share #9 Posted October 25, 2010 I swear the 1800s were either rotting in Eastchester or scrapped entirely.

It was painted with a black stripe to separate it from regular service. In late 1999 GBL got 717-718 from Triboro and NYBS got 4 Orion V's that were given to GBL in 2000 as 719-722 because NYBS did not like them so GBL gave MCI's 703-704, and 717-718 to trade for the NYBS Orions(1 door). The TransitMan Posted October 7, 2011 Share #17 Posted October 7, 2011 The 35ft. Gilligs were 500-520 and the 40ft. was 521-569(a few were repowered). The 1989 Orions were 578-599 and the 1991's were 600-656. The first CNG's were 657-666(these buses didn't last long). Metro A#1037 was a reserve bus until 2005 or 6 and I last saw it on the N6 around then. Um...no. Unless I missed something and a few Long Island Bus operators can confirm this but the Gilligs went like this: 35 Ft - #500-519 40 Ft - #520-561 Living just north of Hillside Av, I remember seeing the 35 Fters (on occasion) on the N1, N2 and/or N3 and the rest on the other routes. I know for a fact that Gillig #520 is a 40 Ft bus. Gillig #544-545 were repowered from what I remembered. If there were more, then I did not see them. Was there an Orion 05.501 CNG #667? Finally, I thought the order was Flxible Metro-A 40102 #PA1000-PA1033? I've never seen #1034-1037 (at least that's what you're replying). On a side note, that order had a few oddities: Flxible Metro-A #1002 and #1020 were repowered with a Cummins engine (similiar to WMATA's Flxible Metro-B #9300s BUT without the Voith) Flxible Metro-A #1011 had a computerized destination sign on the front and side (the rest had the roll signs of course). Those three Flxible Metro-As were on the N1, N2 and N3 every morning from 1995-1997 OR until they retired. I would see them as I would wait for my bus to school.
