Amtrak7 Posted October 22, 2010 Share #1 Posted October 22, 2010 -Making permanent the Q101 terminal relocation in Manhattan -Reroute B54 back into Metrotech Ctr - December -Schedule changes with some increases in Hylan Blvd and Q15 service - January -Restructuring in Eastern Bronx - January: Bx8 returns to pre-service cut route New Bx24 operates via the old Bx14 path in Country Club to the Pelham Bay Park station, every 30 min Create Bx4A that operates via E Tremont/Metropolitan between Hugh Grant and Westchester Sq http://mta.info/mta/news/books/pdf/101025_1045_BUS.pdf
cotb16 Posted October 22, 2010 Share #2 Posted October 22, 2010 The new Bx24 would not last too long since it is too short. They might as well tie this route with the Bx29 and run it between City Island and Country Club. As for the new Bx4A, they might as well reroute all Bx4's through Metro Av since ridership tanks under the east of Parkchester. If the Bx8 returns on Crosby and Layton Avs, they might as well reroute the Bx5 through Bruckner Blvd as well to reduce delays on that route. Shortline Bus Posted October 22, 2010 Share #3 Posted October 22, 2010 The new Bx24 would not last too long since it is too short. While I am not an expert on the NE Bronx routes, I agree Lenin on the failure of the new BX24. At this point restructure the BX29 to run between Country Club and City Island makes the most sense. However City Island residents will scream about losing a 1-seat ride to/from Bay Plaza. In reality most City Island residents either get off to transfer at PBP to the (6)or other bus lines or are driving to Bay Plaza. While I only been to Country Club/Throgs Neck a few times in my life(I been to Bay Plaza/Coop City alot more)sounds like an old school 1970's/80's era NIMBY neighborhood that is highly political connected that unlike the rest of the city was spared most of the service cuts. Which is unfair.:tdown:

When there is money, power and politics involved with that Bx24, it will last for quite a long time. I figured it would be more sensible for them to send the Bx23 down there instead. Morons. Shortline Bus Posted October 22, 2010 Share #5 Posted October 22, 2010 I Guess NYPD Police Chief Kelly and the Mayor agreed after the Downtown area and B54 complained about the re-route and being stuck in traffic along North Flatbush to/from the Manhattan Bridge. The re-route at MetroTech i think since 9/11 was related to the fact the FDNY/EMS citywide headquarters is located there. Should have been done a while ago and a compromise should be make Mytrle between North Flatbush and Jay along Metrotech, buses only similar to Park Row for the M103 by NYPD headquarters. Also on the issue of increased bus service on Hylan. I just time to have limited stop service at least during rush hours on the S79 along SI's busiest coordior. Amtrak7 Posted October 23, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted October 23, 2010 Eastern Bronx map that I just made: Not the full route is shown for the Bx4A and Bx8, only the changes. checkmatechamp13 Posted October 23, 2010 Share #7 Posted October 23, 2010 Maybe the (Bx24) routing is a way of keeping the "outsiders" out of Country Club. I agree it would've made a lot more sense to send the (Bx23) there, especially considering that the city covers the expenses, so the MTA would have to literally spend nothing to serve Country Club. And I agree about the (Bx4). They might as well run all buses via Metropolitan Avenue, since under the current plan, Westchester Avenue gets 20-minute service during rush hours. I Guess NYPD Police Chief Kelly and the Mayor agreed after the Downtown area and B54 complained about the re-route and being stuck in traffic along North Flatbush to/from the Manhattan Bridge. For now it looks like the Bx5 and Bx8 will run on Crosby Avenue. The Bx5 will fill in the gap between Crosby Avenue and Pelham Bay Park on Westchester Avenue. GreatOne2k Posted October 23, 2010 Share #10 Posted October 23, 2010 Bx5 isn't going anywhere anytime soon Confirmed page 64 Although the Bx5 also serves Crosby Avenue, customers of this route do not originate from the same neighborhoods of the Bx8. Crosby Avenue is a highly active commercial and retail corridor which would benefit from the services of two bus routes Looks like Crosby Avenue can thank Country Club for doubling their service
Q43LTD Posted October 26, 2010 Share #11 Posted October 26, 2010 It would make sense to put the Bx5 back on Bruckner. Crosby Av doesn't need 2 routes. Is the MTA smoking weed?
Gotham Bus Co Posted October 26, 2010 Share #12 Posted October 26, 2010 As for the new Bx4A, they might as well reroute all Bx4's through Metro Av since ridership tanks under the east of Parkchester. I wouldn't be surprised if the Bx4A ends up carrying more riders east of Hugh Grant Circle than than the Bx4. If that happens, then the "A" branch could easily become the only branch. If the Bx5 returns to Bruckner, simply extend the Bx4 and Bx4A to Pelham Bay Park to fill the gap between Buhre Av and Pelham Bay Park.

Actually the Metrotech management did not want buses going through the center. Now that they are under new management, MTA is once again allowed to return to the center. They had offices in MetroTech and were known by employees in the complex to be rather paranoid about security.

Bx5 Service down Crosby is pointless if the Bx8 is back. and honestly does anyone care about bus service between crosby and pelham bay park? a couple people per hour at the most used the bx14. i barely see anyone get on the bx5 along that stretch.
