Have You Ever Visited Overlook Terrace and Inwood?

A quiet but interesting short street in interesting Upper Manhattan. Overlook Terrace begins at West 184th Street (which runs east to Amsterdam Avenue) with the sidewalk level tunnel entrance to the 181st Street (A) station and runs to West 190th Street at the Fort Tryon Center next to the low wall at the overlook as Overlook Terrace curves into West 190th Street. West 190th Street continues to Fort Washington Avenue and ends at Cabrini Boulevard.

On the west side, Fort Washington Avenue is very high above a block west and West 187th Street becomes a long, steep stair-street connecting Overlook and Fort Washington. There are a couple of buildings next to West 187th, but for the large part, the west side is a fence along the sidewalk and trees.

Inwood also is interesting. There is another sidewalk level tunnel entrance on Bennett Avenue to the 190th Street-Overlook Terrace (A) station. Beautiful Fort Tryon Park is one of several parks in Inwood. The Cloisters are located here.

Near West 215th Street, there is a stair-street which connects Broadway and Park Terrace East, a block west. Isham Park is also nearby. The large Inwood Hill Park is between Payson and Seaman Avenues and the Hudson River.

At 4790 Broadway is the nice looking Inwood Branch Library. The Dyckman House, Manhattan's last farmhouse is nearby.

On West 218th Street west of Broadway is the Robert K. Kraft Field at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium, home of the Columbia Lions. The original field was Baker Field on this site. Columbia has played football here since 1923. Lawrence A. Wien Stadium replaced Baker Field in 1984.

I've been to this area. It's very nice and it's very different from areas east of Broadway (both in demographics and character). West of Broadway is very quiet and pretty nice (except on weekends and during the summer with all of the motorcycles and cars speeding and blasting music on Broadway, and the clubs are in full force).
