gtNovaBusRTS9369 Posted October 24, 2010 Share #1 Posted October 24, 2010 I heard some drivers talk over in Brooklyn mentioning that the NovaBus RTS'es with the ZF Transmission are gonna be converted to regular diesel. Is this gonna be true?
Q25toJamaica Posted October 24, 2010 Share #2 Posted October 24, 2010 They are regular diesel, if anything the transmissions may be converted to the Allison V731 (don't take this as fact though)
S78 via Hylan Posted October 25, 2010 Share #3 Posted October 25, 2010 They are regular diesel, if anything the transmissions may be converted to the Allison V731 (don't take this as fact though) It has already happened to 5075.
Cait Sith Posted October 25, 2010 Share #4 Posted October 25, 2010 It has already happened to 5075. And only 5075, because the transmission on that bus pretty much died. Here it is before the swap
Fresh Pond Posted October 25, 2010 Share #5 Posted October 25, 2010 [/size] I heard some drivers talk over in Brooklyn mentioning that the NovaBus RTS'es with the ZF Transmission are gonna be converted to regular diesel. Is this gonna be true? I heard that as well cuz they (the B/Os who told me) said hat those transmissions are starting to drop like flies. The only one got converted (transmission wise BTW) is 5075 Here's a tidbit (most of you people know this already though): the same transmission in those buses is the same as the Orion VII CNGs at West Farms (the ones with the orange signs only)
East New York Posted October 25, 2010 Share #6 Posted October 25, 2010 Basically the MTA is evaluating exactly what to do with 5076-5124. As most of you already know, 4900-5249 will not be going anywhere, anytime soon. Therefore, the MTA is trying to decide exactly how to best preserve 5076-5124, and the rest of the 1998, and 1999 RTS' in question. So if this means they will get new transmissions, then that is what will take place. But in my personal opinion, I think the ZF's are here to stay! At least for now! Grand Concourse Posted October 25, 2010 Share #7 Posted October 25, 2010 Maybe those buses should go back to FB if UP isn't up to the task in preserving those engines?
East New York Posted October 25, 2010 Share #8 Posted October 25, 2010 Maybe those buses should go back to FB if UP isn't up to the task in preserving those engines? I DEFINITELY think they need to go back to Flatbush. They definitely have a top notch maintenance team down there.
Grand Concourse Posted October 25, 2010 Share #9 Posted October 25, 2010 Thank you. And at this point I don't think it really matters about keeping the camera equipped buses around. I would be open to a trade of the 51xx-5204 for the ZF buses.
Kanarsie Guy Posted October 26, 2010 Share #10 Posted October 26, 2010 I Don't know about UP Being all that bad aside from the drity, with area like Sea Gate, Gravesend, and Coney Island it happens. I think there do Great Work those 1996 Novas some of the best Buses in the system hands downs. As well as the MCI which are Top Tier if it kame from Ulmer Park Depot. We Had 5075-5099 Before FLA so if anything they kan have 5100-5124 back Orange sign and all, I would glady take 9074-9083 back and a few others. East New York Posted October 27, 2010 Share #12 Posted October 27, 2010 which buses from 5075-5124 series have orange signs It looks like they are just doing the 1999 (5105-5249) series buses right now. 5105-5112 have them IIRC.
Grand Concourse Posted October 27, 2010 Share #13 Posted October 27, 2010 Speaking of which, I finally got a pic of 5110 today. Did see 5113 the other day, but obviously still not converted yet.
