they big JPG files, I scanned em in on my computer

I think that poster was talking about PDF files like the ones on the MTA website since the early 2000s. Those maps were computer drawn so requesting those maps as PDF files make sense.

true, they probably were using lithographs to make those older maps

No, I meant if the images can be ported into PDF, that will save amount of space and compressed into good viewable map.

 

I believe the map images in jpeg is well over 100MB with out compressed, right?

PDFs store images as JPEGs internally anyway. You can't make it smaller without losing quality.

I know this is old, but there is one of these in the bathroom in the waiting room at the Kew Gardens LIRR station, I have some pictures
