Calvin Posted October 28, 2010 Share #1 Posted October 28, 2010 Mostly, R160A-2 and R160B Alstom mix their trains sometimes. I was wondering how come R160 Alstom sets mix together? EX: (8743-8747)-[8673-8677] (-R160B Alstom [-R160A-
NYtransit Posted October 28, 2010 Share #2 Posted October 28, 2010 if your talking about mixing kiwasiki and alstom, its because each train brakes kick in differently.

MattTrain Posted October 28, 2010 Share #5 Posted October 28, 2010 Wow. I didn't even know they mixed sets. R-160A(Alstom) and R-160B(Kawasaki) trains can be intermixed, and they work just fine. R-160A/R-160B intermixed trains with Alstom Onix Propulsion happen quite often. R-160B trains with Siemens propulsion can be intermixed with R-160A/B too, but it hasn't happened too much. Fan Railer Posted October 28, 2010 Share #6 Posted October 28, 2010 Not sure if I'm reading it correctly, but if you're asking WHY they mix the Alstom propulsion sets, then it's for versatility purposes. If the two sets are compatible enough to the right degree, then why not mix them in service. It simplifies things in the yard. And as said above, reasons for why they don't mix Siemens sets with Alstom sets have been given... and of course, if you search youtube, they did test mixing those sets a couple of times before.
