GreatOne2k Posted October 30, 2010 Share #1 Posted October 30, 2010 If MTA could ever get more money (or MTA cuts service elsewhere to fund this) there are a few changes that should be considered. 1. Adding at least one more to the afternoon service arriving at E 180 St between 4:30pm and 4:57pm to help relieve the overcrowded and trains. 2. Adding one more in the AM. This would not require another train, a Dyre train would be deleted and added to 238 current schedule 238/Dyre E 180 <5>7:55 AM 8:09 AM (5)8:03 AM 8:16 AM <5>8:05 AM 8:20 AM (5)8:11 AM 8:25 AM <5>8:17 AM 8:31 AM (5)8:23 AM 8:36 AM (5)8:28 AM 8:41 AM (5)8:39 AM 8:50 AM (5)8:45 AM 8:57 AM (5)8:53 AM 9:05 AM my new schedule 238/Dyre E 180 <5>7:55 AM 8:09 AM (5)8:03 AM 8:16 AM <5>8:05 AM 8:20 AM (5)8:11 AM 8:25 AM <5>8:17 AM 8:31 AM (5)8:23 AM 8:36 AM <5>8:27 AM 8:41 AM (5)8:35 AM 8:46 AM (5)8:45 AM 8:57 AM (5)8:53 AM 9:05 AM 3. Adding 3 round trips on the weekends (at least on Saturdays) to Bowling Green by extending trips leaving Dyre at 9:33pm, 9:45pm, and 9:57pm. This means there will also be 3 later trains leaving Bowling Green at 10:41pm, 10:53pm, and 11:05pm to nearly match the weekday evening span of service. This will help relieve crowding on the and trains, especially on Saturday nights. This also still allows the Dyre shuttle to begin OPTO at midnight. The could end Astoria service 1 hour earlier on weekday evenings if MTA needs to cut something. The could also begin full length Sunday service 1-2 hours later on Sunday mornings ( Shuttle would run until 6 or 7 am Sundays). The would also have to run local a bit later on Sunday mornings if this is done.
Abba Posted October 31, 2010 Share #2 Posted October 31, 2010 I would also terminate some trains (like every other one) at Utica during middays to relieve some congestion at Flatbush.Even send a couple to Zoo Lots.
Fresh Pond Posted October 31, 2010 Share #3 Posted October 31, 2010 Wirelessly posted via (Mozilla/5.0 (Danger hiptop 4.7; U; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20050920) I would also terminate some trains (like every other one) at Utica during middays to relieve some congestion at Flatbush.Even send a couple to Zoo Lots. They do that already in the PM rush, but not every other train
Shortline Bus Posted October 31, 2010 Share #4 Posted October 31, 2010 I would also terminate some trains (like every other one) at Utica during middays to relieve some congestion at Flatbush.Even send a couple to Zoo Lots. I agree 100%. Other ideas to consider. 1)Run full length service until 1230am. Run it between Canal St and Forest Hills until 130am. Start full service on Sunday Mornings at 8am to help pay for this increased. 2)Start (5)peak direction Bronx express at 6am (Manhattan Bound)and end at 1030am. Start Dyre Ave Bronx express (5)service at 3pm(leaving at 149th/GC)and end at 9pm. 3)extend late night Rockaway park service to Euclid Ave but increase headways to every hour. Better for Rock park riders to wait at safer and warmer Euclid Ave then end at cold Broad Channel.
