So where does Cliff Lee, Carl Crawford, Jason Wertz and this crop of free agents will play in 2011 and beyond/

However some sad news. MLB Hall of Fame Skipper "sparky Anderson' has passed away. Anderson won '3' world series titles with the 1975-76 Reds and the 1984 Tigers. Here a news link.

The Mets clubhouse manager, Charlie Samuels (at first I thought Charlie Manuel, but no) is believed to have been betting on baseballe and other stuff:

http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2010/11/05/charlie-samuels-mets-clubhouse-manager-reportedly-bet-on-baseb/

The allegations against suspended Mets clubhouse manager Charlie Samuels are much more serious -- and numerous -- than initially reported.

The New York Daily News reported Friday that Samuels is believed to have told MLB investigators he placed bets on baseball games, an assertion confirmed by The Associated Press. He also allegedly was taped by law enforcement placing bets on college and pro football games with a gambling ring that had ties to organized crime. Samuels even provided free seats to Mets games -- tickets that would normally run $400 -- to some of those organized crime figures, the newspaper reported.

In addition, investigators are reportedly looking into the possibility that Samuels tapped into Mets financial accounts and sold team memorabilia to help cover his gambling debts.

Neither the Mets nor MLB would comment to the Daily News on the allegations.

The ongoing investigation has its roots in a 2005 probe that ended in Shea Stadium groundskeeper Dominic Valila losing his job after he was found to be involved in a gambling ring associated with the Bonanno crime family. Samuels' assistant, Nick Priore, was also fired in the wake of that investigation.

The Daily News said investigators began poking around Citi Field again this season after the Mets' team store asked Samuels for players' jerseys and he said he had none, even though he should have had a surplus on hand. Bats and balls also are unaccounted for, and there are indications of irregularities involving Samuels' handling of hotel room bookings for the team. In addition to Samuels' clubhouse duties, he also handles the team's travel arrangements.

The 53-year-old New Jersey native has worked for the Mets for 27 years. He previously worked for the Phillies.

Yankees Captain Derek Jeter is up as a free agent after his 10 year contract is up.

Do you think the yanks will keep him and i think Jorge Pasada is also as well.

Posada, not so much. But Jeter, I think the Yankees will keep him.

The Phils' Jamie Moyer maybe be facing retirement after suffering an injury in the Dominican Winter League:

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/11/moyer-f.html

Jamie Moyer has pitched in the majors since 1986, but it may be an injury sustained outside of MLB that forces him to hang up his cleats. Dionisio Soldevila of Tiempo de Juego reports that Moyer left a game in the Dominican winter league today after two innings with an injury to his throwing elbow. Moises Alou, the general manager of Moyer's Escogido club, tells Soldevila that Moyer "probably" won't pitch again in his career (Twitter links).

As Soldevila notes in a separate tweet, the injured elbow is the same one that forced Moyer to miss most of the second half of the 2010 season. The left-hander, who turns 48 later this month, was pitching in the Dominican league in an attempt to showcase the health of his left arm and earn a major league contract for 2011.

If the injury does derail Moyer's comeback for good, it would be an unfortunate end to an incredibly long and impressive career. The lefty has won 267 games and pitched more than 4000 innings for seven teams over the course of the quarter-century he has spent in the bigs.

I was looking at his stats from 1986, and saw he started two games, as a Chicago Cub, against the Astros, both against Nolan Ryan.

On August 27, 1986, Moyer went 3.1 innings, allowed 5 runs, and struck out 1. That 1 strikeout? Nolan Ryan. And the first time Ryan faced Moyer? A walk.

In Moyers next start (in Chicago), Ryan drove in a run with a groundout, and both pitchers struck each other out. However, the game went into extra innings. In the bottom of the 17th inning, the Cubs' Greg Maddux made his major league debut as a pinch runner, and then he pitched the top of the 18th inning, and lost the game.

Quite some trivia, right? :P

I hope the Yankees don't resign Captain Intangible. He wants an exorbitant amount of money, but he's not as talented as he thinks he is.

Again FG. Jeter should take a pay cut and move to another position on the team. However he the most popular player on Yankees since Mickey Mantle and they would be media blacklash on Cashman and Hal/Hank if Jeters signs with another team.

That the point and I predict Jeter will finish his carrer with Yanks and lay the ground for his post carrer possibly as a future skipper or Team Executive.

After 20 years and the longest national broadcasting crew in MLB History, ESPN has let go of it's lead broadcasting team. Jon Miller also the lead TV voice of the SF Giants and Hall of fame 2b Joe Morgan will not return to the 2011 season as the voices of mainly ESPN Sunday Night Baseball.

Yay! :( Two #1's and two other New York Yankees are on the 12-man Veterans' Committee ballot for next month.

Mr. Steinbrenner, the Principal Owner of the Yankees and Manager Billy Martin (who also played for the Yankees), along with Louisiana Lightning (Ron Guidry) and T.J. (Tommy John) are the ballot with Rusty Staub, Vida Blue, Al Oliver, Ted Simmons, Steve Garvey, Davey Concepcion, and former General Manager.

Billy Martin played for the Yankees from 1950-1957 under Manager Casey Stengel then played for the Athletics, Tigers, Indians, Reds, Braves, and Twins. As a Yankee, he averaged .262 and .257 for his career.

He became a manager in 1969 with the Twins, then the Tigers (1971-1973) and the Rangers (1974-1975). He was successful, guiding the Twins to the A.L. West Division title in 1969, the Tigers to the A.L.C.S. in 1972 and the Rangers to second place and their first winning season in 1974 but he couldn't seem to stay.

He arrived back with the Yankees on a warm Oldtimers Day August 2, 1975 and guided the Yankees to a 30-26 finish as the Red Sox won the A.L East. He then guided the Yankees to an A.L. Pennant in 1976 as the Bombers returned home after two seasons sharing Shea Stadium and a World Series title in 1977. In 1978 he was the Yankees manager for 94 games. On July 23, 1978 with the Yankees 52-42 and 10 games behind the Red Sox, he resigned.

He would be back four more times as the Yankees manager but each time seemed to take a little bit out of him and he never quite regained the success he enjoyed from 1975-1978.

He also managed the Athletics from 1980-1983.

Results will be announced December 6th.

I disagree about throwing Jeter under the bus, but I do draw the line on if he's making outrageous demands following a down year. If he comes back for like $18 mil per, fine and for 4 or less years. Otherwise, there's other players out there like Orlando Cabrerra or such for much less.

How many more seasons do you think jeter has left as an everyday player? this is a guy who will resist being a part time player no matter what.

Of this list, since I been following MLB since around 1982, George, Billy Martin and Tommy John ( for his comeback from Tommy John surgrey) on the buliders/executives category and Steve Garvey should be elected to Cooperstown IMO.

Be realistic, only Steinbrenner will make it on the executive side. While Garvey has a 50-50 chance and only player listed with a good chance to make it.

Not on the ballot but should also be selected to the Baseball HOF should be Oakland A's Owners Charles Finley (he won 3 world series in a row in the 1970's) the first boss of the MLB Players Association Marvin Miller and Bowie Kuhn the MLB commissioner in the 1970's/early '80s'.

Vida Blue started off excellent with a 24-8 1971 season (after 2-0 in 1970 and 1-0 in 1969). Unfortunately, he got into a fight with Charlie Findley right away and was only 6-10 in 1972 but he settled down to a decent career.

His best years were the Athletic years: 24-8 (1971); 20-9 (1973); 22-11 (1975); 18-13 (1976) and 17-15 (1974) but after going 18-10 for the Baseball Giants in 1978 at age 28, he seemed to wind down, though he pitched through 1986.

there's a problem when you got:

- 5 out of 9 players winning gold gloves representing one division....

- 2 out of the 3 gold glove OF's were from the same team...

mariners, all star OF... yankees all star IF... go figure

mauer & buehrle are the only 2 two players that didn't have a teammate share a gold glove this year.... out of 9 possible defensive positions in baseball.... think about that...

Jeter gets another undeserved accolade.

Dude are you jealous of Jeter or something? At least he not a jerk like your buddy Terrel Owens. Or Randy Moss and the queen 'diva' Brett Favre.

I agree FG Jeter is overrated and overpaid and Yank fans don't want to face reality 'father time' is starting to take hold on Jeter. However, almost all sports stars and those in Hollywood these days are also overpaid, so why the anger at Derek.
