Guest MTA Bus Posted November 6, 2010 Share #1 Posted November 6, 2010 Can the new R160s at East New York Yard run on the ? I'm asking this because the other day, I saw an R160 in ENY Yard in the 9900s signed up as the train.
Guest lance25 Posted November 6, 2010 Share #2 Posted November 6, 2010 Don't the R160s at East New York already run on the ? If it's a R160A-1 and it's equipped with CBTC, then it can run on Canarsie.

I know there's a few CBTC set that sometime end up on the . Of course they are not in CBTC mode. It would be scary if the were.
R44 CNG Posted November 6, 2010 Share #4 Posted November 6, 2010 Non CBTC R160's can't run on the , just an employee playin' around, like this
IRT Bronx Express Posted November 6, 2010 Share #5 Posted November 6, 2010 There was a similar topic regarding this subject months ago. Hmm...
R32 3348 Posted November 6, 2010 Share #6 Posted November 6, 2010 R160As 8313-8376 can be used on the . For now, other R160s technically can be used on the , but they will be in CBTC bypass mode. However, they're going to remove all the automatic signals on the line in the coming months so 8313-8376 would be the only R160s fit for service. Calvin Posted November 6, 2010 Share #7 Posted November 6, 2010 I was on the yesterday and i was on 8497-8500 with a blue mark coupled with 8365-8368 with a red mark. I was shocked why its coupled like that
Fresh Pond Posted November 7, 2010 Share #8 Posted November 7, 2010 Jesus crackers, how many times are we gonna talk about this. Lets say this one more final time and close this thing... 8313-8376 (8 trainsets) are the ONLY R160 cars that have CBTC. They are used MOSTLY on the . HOWEVER, they will make an appearance on the occasionally since they are still ENY cars but when they do run on the , the train will be in CBTC BYPASS since neither the Jamaica, Nassau St, 6 Av or Queens Blvd lines are CBTC ready yet. The only R160s the will run (for now cuz things nay change eventually) is 8313-8376
INDman Posted November 7, 2010 Share #9 Posted November 7, 2010 Non CBTC R160's can't run on the , just an employee playin' around, like this  Um, any train can run on the line. How do you think the wash trains get from ENY to Canarsie yard? Non CBTC trains can even go to 8th Av, but only under a GO though.
INDman Posted November 7, 2010 Share #10 Posted November 7, 2010 However, they're going to remove all the automatic signals on the line in the coming months so 8313-8376 would be the only R160s fit for service. ONLY from B'way Junction to 8th Av. They need wayside signals to Canarsie because that's were ENY trains get washed. If a Non-CBTC train needs to enter the if all signals were taken out, it could only be done under a GO and it is a real pain in the ass.
FamousNYLover Posted November 7, 2010 Share #11 Posted November 7, 2010 I remember I caught R160 when train was only operating between Canarsie & Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.

TwoTimer Posted November 7, 2010 Share #13 Posted November 7, 2010 Indeed there are ENY 160s used for the L, we were breaking in on them last week. 143's are also stored in ENY too.
Fresh Pond Posted November 7, 2010 Share #14 Posted November 7, 2010 lol Lmao that made my day But on a serious note the only thing you would see on the during normal operations is this... R143: 8101-8312 (excluding 8277-8280) R160: 8313-8376 That's it, nothing more

INDman Posted November 8, 2010 Share #16 Posted November 8, 2010 What is the reason for removing the signals? Does this bring down maintenance costs? the people in power think they are not needed which is true, if and only IF everything works correctly which CBTC does not.
