lilbluefoxie Posted November 12, 2010 Share #1 Posted November 12, 2010 I was just thinking of something, they stick in the slow routes to the airports on the map already, why not add in the Select Bus Routes which is like rapid transit but just with buses On the subway map I have on my wall that I use to plan my trips, among other annotations and notes and things, I drew in the +SBS+ routes in colored pencil. IRT Bronx Express Posted November 12, 2010 Share #4 Posted November 12, 2010 also the first version of the current design had a few bus routes on itYou mean like the Bx55 (3rd Ave line) and a few other buses that replaced elevated lines?
Law Posted November 12, 2010 Share #5 Posted November 12, 2010 I think they should, since they have buses going to the airport on the current map such as the (M60). Also, The SBS bus service is on the route maps on the R142s, might as well be on map too.
East New York Posted November 12, 2010 Share #6 Posted November 12, 2010 I think they should show all local routes that serve major stations.
FamousNYLover Posted November 12, 2010 Share #7 Posted November 12, 2010 To me, yes. SBS for NYC, and just like Boston's Silver Line BRT Buses are listed on T-Subway Map.

INDman Posted November 12, 2010 Share #10 Posted November 12, 2010 then why do they put the routes to the airports on it? also the first version of the current design had a few bus routes on it I have always felt that they should not show those routes, the most they should do is bring back the bus transfer bubble on the map. FamousNYLover Posted November 12, 2010 Share #11 Posted November 12, 2010 I think they also should bring back Express Bus Map which listed all Express Buses in/out of Manhattan.
checkmatechamp13 Posted November 12, 2010 Share #12 Posted November 12, 2010 I can't really see too many Manhattan residents commuting to an outer borough in the PM rush (which is when the service is most frequent), and if they are, they could look at the map of their destination borough (there is no point in seeing the number of an express route in Manhattan if you don't know where it goes in the outer boroughs). In any case, when did they stop printing that map?
lilbluefoxie Posted November 12, 2010 Author Share #13 Posted November 12, 2010 I think they also should bring back Express Bus Map which listed all Express Buses in/out of Manhattan. they used to have a specific express bus map? also when there were private bus operators, did each one have their own map? SubwayGuy Posted November 12, 2010 Share #14 Posted November 12, 2010 Select BUS Service, so no. What they should do is go back to including the line by line maps on the opposite side of the subway map like they did in the 80's and 90's. Those gave you the cross streets for all station stops on each line, and all transfers listed out (including buses). MTA Railroads should be a separate map from the regular subway map. Long time ago about time I was in MS104. Express Bus Map was PDF Document which showed all express buses, including Atlantic Express X23/X24 routes. Hell go back to a map with 3 colors, one color for each division, black and white rollsigns, no PAs, air powered doors, Motor Instructors and MotorMEN. I agree with you, 100%. It needs more awareness to use the SBS. Other transit agency do that put BRT on the rail map, why cant MTA?
KGTeleport Posted November 13, 2010 Share #18 Posted November 13, 2010 It's clearly useful to show SBS routes on the Subway Map. My main concern would be what if they SBS-ed (or Light Railed) the M42: that would be an absolute pain to draw.
Amtrak7 Posted November 25, 2010 Share #19 Posted November 25, 2010 How about do it like MBTA: Show bus rapid transit and several key bus routes. Maybe 5 bus routes per borough in addition to SBS?
Guest lance25 Posted November 25, 2010 Share #20 Posted November 25, 2010 Answering the original question, yes SBS routes show be on the map. If they can put every line that goes to an airport on a subway map, I don't see why the Select Bus Service can't be on the map.
TwoTimer Posted November 25, 2010 Share #21 Posted November 25, 2010 Being that there's only two SBS lines, why not? It's not like there's anything else in these parts of the map...
Eastman346 Posted November 26, 2010 Share #22 Posted November 26, 2010 They should put it. It will let subway riders know where the free buses are.
B35 via Church Posted November 26, 2010 Share #23 Posted November 26, 2010 Putting them on the subway map would be, yet, another way of over-glorifying SBS... ...and furthermore, put SBS routes on the subway map? yeah, for people to later complain about the subway map being "too cluttered" (again), forget it..... BroadwayBuffer Posted November 26, 2010 Share #24 Posted November 26, 2010 They should put it. It will let subway riders know where the free buses are. And they'll be sadly mistaken. Putting them on the subway map would be, yet, another way of over-glorifying SBS... ...and furthermore, put SBS routes on the subway map? yeah, for people to later complain about the subway map being "too cluttered" (again), forget it..... I agree, they shouldn't go on there, they should go on the BUS map, because they're buses. SBS is already being flaunted as the future of rapid transit in the city when it isn't much different from regular buses. Those lanes are often too narrow for the buses and get clogged with other traffic or cars in the next lane driving too close to the bus lane to allow them to pass.
