EE Broadway Local Posted November 12, 2010 Share #1 Posted November 12, 2010 Do you remember this promise from the M.T.A.? From NY1 Today In New York City History November 12th In NYC History On this date in: 1995...It's long lines and short tempers as straphangers deal with the first day of a mass transit fare hike. The hike boosts the single-ride fare 25 cents to $1.50 (from $1.25). In return, the M.T.A. promises no more increases for the rest of the century. IRT Bronx Express Posted November 12, 2010 Share #5 Posted November 12, 2010 Well, at least the $1.50 price was kept until May 2003.
LRG Posted November 13, 2010 Share #6 Posted November 13, 2010 Midday (Mx) service was also cut back to Manhattan in the same year as well as overnight 42nd Street Shuttle service.

LRG Posted November 13, 2010 Share #10 Posted November 13, 2010 The worst day in the history of the subway was December 16, 2001. Oh get over yourself already...I don't like some of the changes that occurred this past summer but I've become apathetic to them. Just remember this: if you think you're entitled to a seat, one-seat service from point A to B or both every time you board a train or bus, then public transportation is not for you. You mean the reroute to 63rd Street, the cutback to Court Square, and the introduction of the ? He beats a deadhorse about the 63rd Street connector because it shifted his beloved train from 53rd Street to 63rd Street, and he promises not to discuss it yet he brings it up time and time again. Very ignorant and hypocritical if you ask me.
IRT Bronx Express Posted November 13, 2010 Share #11 Posted November 13, 2010 There's always the train, which still travels via the 53rd Street connector to this day. I understand that the December 2001 service changes (based on what I read) were controversial, but at least there are other alternatives.

For what it's worth there were many times my cousin and I would take the or at Forest Hills just so we wouldn't have to be surrounded by people desperate to get on the train making it even more packed. A local does its job as well as an express.

A local does its job as well as an express. Local riders in Queens even have the option to head over the 53rd Street connector as well, so both the express and the local (can't forget the since it did its job as well) equally serve 53rd Street. Forest Glen can always take the if he wants to go to 53rd, but the difference is vastly obvious.

Forest Glen Posted November 13, 2010 Share #15 Posted November 13, 2010 The only good thing is that I take the bus to school. However, when the campus moves to Court Square next year, that's going to be a problem. Back in 2001, the used the geriatric R32's and the used the sleek R46's. I intentionally avoided the to avoid the R32's. However, after the service change, I was forced to ride the to get to Lex/53rd. Nearly 9 years later, the and use the same cars so I'm less pissed off about the service change.

bxtransit1155 Posted November 16, 2010 Share #17 Posted November 16, 2010 Man, $1.50 seems like a discount fare compared back to '95. Don't forget that was also the start of the seemly never-ending mess when the Manhattan Bridge project.
