Maybe for the Mentally Challenged flying passengers and others with serious medical issues, maybe they can show some 'love' to the TSA agents with this. Funny Clip From 1988 Classic film "Rain Man." SubwayGuy Posted November 24, 2010 Share #82 Posted November 24, 2010 That's not why at all. That terrible attack has been exploited by politicians and government agencies to overstep their authority and deny Americans the very freedoms they are born with as American citizens and granted through our founding documents. Shall each person be monitored at all times with no expectation of privacy out of a fear to "prevent" home grown terrorism? This constant surveillence and eschewing of rights is a VERY slippery slope that this country has already begun to go down. From here it only gets worse. You're saying you think it's "good" that a six or seven year old boy had to get groped and fondled in public because he set off a metal detector in front of more than 100 people? You don't think that experience is going to embarrass that kid? The reason terrorists are called such is that they "create terror." That ONLY works if we let them. If we play scared as a country, they've already won. We have wasted countless resources on these "anti terror" measures. But what we need to look at is why people are trying to blow us up. And the answer is because America sent its troops to aid other battles around the globe and told other countries how to live. No one would be pissed off at us if, like much of the 19th Century, we kept our troops home and defending our own borders if need be, and did not worry about what all the other countries of the world were doing. Live and let live. Just worry about America. This idea that we should be a superpower is ridiculous. We should be an isolated land of great opportunity, as we once were. We can't provide opportunity for our citizens when we are trying to "save" other countries from their own governments or nearby ones. F*** them. If they don't want to be saved from oppression and tyranny, let them be oppressed. Not our problem. We should be defending the rights of our citizens, not trying to reform the Afghanistan banana stand or Iraq. Our response to 9/11 should have been to leave a napalm trail of scorched earth from where our troops marched straight to Osama Bin Laden's cave, and a sealed cave full of rotting terrorist bodies. Then we should have turned around and gone home, and left whatever incompetent government the Afghans had to do as it chose afterwards.
Joe Posted November 24, 2010 Share #83 Posted November 24, 2010 Just in case you forgot why we have patdowns and security scans: Uh, no, not really. Nice try though. A+ for effort but an overall F for comprehension. 9/11 has served nothing more than the ultimate casus belli. Whether the war is on Afghanistan, Iraq or your right to not be molested by a government drone, the feds are going to jam this shit down everyones throat and up everyones ass until they comply. Oh how they love those of you who dismiss it as "oh just get used to it". Tools.

Now the TSA abusing their power, and going overboard with this nonsense is the topic of discussion.
metsfan Posted November 24, 2010 Share #86 Posted November 24, 2010 I'm just going to say this and will not cite the source due to me not wanting to get them in trouble............... There have been dry runs where, i guess you can call them terrorists, have had plastic things strapped or taped to them in various places, things a metal detector wouldn't pick up at all, and there have also been attempts to get various things through both carry-on and checked bags (recent cargo story ring a bell?) at several airports within the US. There have also been times where vehicles (including box trucks) have been parked & left unoccupied in various locations such as at the curb outside terminals to observe police etc response time... Also, flight crews have been discretely informed by ______ to observe specific passengers and so on, they have several systems they use in order to not have a predictable "routine", so that at least is safe, but there have been several people taken off of flights that connect before their final destination. Do you really want to get rid of pat downs & body scanners? There is such a huge monumental eye on airports and securing these facilities and keeping threats out it would probably make you vomit if you knew all the details & never want to fly again. For now the stuff they are doing is the way it has to be, unless you enjoy swimming to europe etc. - A

Are potential terrorists being caught solely because of patting and x-rays? I think money and effort is being wasted developing the wrong techniques. metsfan Posted November 24, 2010 Share #89 Posted November 24, 2010 What I don't get is how other countries can have the same level of security without doing the things you defend so dearly. Are potential terrorists being caught solely because of patting and x-rays? I think money and effort is being wasted developing the wrong techniques. They had chemical puffers, would puff air onto you, detect any residue. That did the same job as both the pat downs & the body scan machines. TSA people liked the puffers, it was similar in operation to a metal detector, only action was taken if someone alarmed, which it did from time to time (about 45 times actual people were caught & detained). They are not at every airport, and TSA people do not like the scanners, one for the complex operation, 2 the residual radiation exposure constantly all day, and 3 this nonsense that has kicked off silly "opt out" days etc. It's mostly political. The companies that manufacturer these scanner have spent hundreds of millions of dollars lobbying the government since 2004. The senator in charge of pushing these scanners has received a lot of money from these folks expecting their product to be ordered by the government & put in place at every airport. I expect this won't happen now & suspect an investigation into the vetting process for new screening technologies that cost nationally thousands of missed hours for TSA workers that had to undergo training for these machines. This is just beginning, you need to go through these security steps for the time being, however i see changes on the horizon that involve more behavioral observation & less intrusive things like background checks and other NSA/CIA/FBI/ATFE etc type detective work. The return of metal detection wands is likely, with body screening becoming as low % and random as the pat-downs (about 3% opt for pat down currently). - A

CenSin Posted February 8, 2011 Share #91 Posted February 8, 2011 Well, I got a pat-down on Sunday night coming back from Miami. They thought my packages of microwavable food were suspicious. Wearing skinny jeans and a tight shirt didn't help me avoid one.
