Cait Sith Posted December 11, 2010 Share #5 Posted December 11, 2010 R46s to SIR.....giving Staten Islanders another reason to bitch about hand-me-down equipment.....unfortunately, they can't send and change up those soon to be dead M2s to be able to operate on SIR service
Sea Beach Posted December 11, 2010 Share #6 Posted December 11, 2010 Im assuming the R179's will be bumping our R46 to SI? It would be cool if they leave the LED Side Sign in there and reprogramed them to SI Destinations.

East New York Posted December 12, 2010 Author Share #14 Posted December 12, 2010 Yep, sounds like something I had said months ago, but people on here shot that down.... I remember that! But I didn't know much about the subway, so I didn't doubt you because you definitely know more than me when it comes to RTO.

Guest lance25 Posted December 12, 2010 Share #16 Posted December 12, 2010 Bombardier had a chance with the R188 base order, but chose to decline citing high costs for a small order.

Not worth the tooling cost I see.Bombardier still needs to redeem itself from the R142 order a few years back.

What's wrong with the 142s (other than they look grungy as hell)? It's the 142As that sound like they have Redbird brakes when trying to slow down. They'd have to out railings on the side to the cars for the crew to climb into and out of the cars from the roadbed and make the cars compatible with the SIR signal system. Plus, if R46's are transfered, what will take their place on the "mainland"?
rr4567 Posted December 13, 2010 Share #21 Posted December 13, 2010 They had some propulsion and brake issues on a moderate scale sometime back.A few years ago haven`t you noticed how slow R142s use to be compared to today? Well yeah, they used to be slow. But now look at the current conditions. Tons of R142As with squealing brakes due to the dead motors. And on alot of the R142 and 142As the light covers are now yellow.
mark1447 Posted December 13, 2010 Share #22 Posted December 13, 2010 Id prefer Railroad fleets on the SIRTOA, not subway cars. =_=. Especially since the SIR is a railroad tho with some NYCT "features". The Only Railroad fleet i see is the BL20GH in Clifton. But I already knew R46s will head to the SIRTOA. And i dont know if this is exclusive as a lot of us already knew this. But the 50 extra 179s i didn't know.

They can't use railroad cars anymore because of the lengths of the platforms.

I mean that locomotive is found on the Metro-North which MNR has wider cars compared to the B Div.
