RokuSix Posted December 28, 2010 Share #27 Posted December 28, 2010 I'm concerned. If this is how natural disasters are handled, how prepared are we for any form of disaster, really? I think emergency management in the transit system and in the entire city needs to be carefully scrutinized.

Harry Posted December 28, 2010 Author Share #29 Posted December 28, 2010 That's why I say "Get them 75' foot cars the hell away from me!" I need another way to go besides trying to kick a damn window out.
Joe Posted December 28, 2010 Share #30 Posted December 28, 2010 Can you kick out the storm door windows on 60' cars as well? Of course, the end doors would still be locked (not as if that's a problem though).
TrainFanatic Posted December 28, 2010 Share #31 Posted December 28, 2010 Me and a couple of friends used to breakdance on the back in 07 (I'm not that good) and to go from car to car on the 44's one of my friends would unlock the storm door by snapping the handle back really fast. Thou I'm not sure if that would work on a 46.

Mark 1 Posted December 28, 2010 Share #33 Posted December 28, 2010 There was a blizzard after all folks, shit happens. The public possibly can't expect trains to run normally in snow, especially outdoors and next time if those who have nothing seriously important to do they should stay home. The MTA cares most about moving trains and buses as far as possible no matter what the situation is, even if it backfires later on. Yes, this was a very tough situation for those A riders but the crew could have been ordered to discharge the train and leave the passengers out in the cold. Be thankful you were in the train. 2 Train Master Posted December 28, 2010 Share #35 Posted December 28, 2010 People act like this is the first blizzard we ever had, but the Blizzard of '96 was worst than any other blizzard. Well, this is not the 1st but this was probably the 1st blizzard some of us experienced.I'm sure a lot of us teens here probably dont remember the blizzard of 1996.My memory goes as far back as '97 or '98.Ya know this is the 1st Blizzard I've experienced myself. And news cast are hyping this up giving us info and we are amused.Early in the week no one expected this it kind of surprised us b\c the Blizzard warnings were Friday if it were Monday or Tuesday I'm sure millions of people would had planned ahead or canceled. R32 3352 Posted December 28, 2010 Share #39 Posted December 28, 2010 They Probably could have evacuated the train. Even though they would have to trudge through the snow, It seems to be worth it to me...
Joe Posted December 28, 2010 Share #40 Posted December 28, 2010 You probably don't want the public trudging around the tracks, especially in the snow. Haven't you realized how dumb most people are, especially when it comes to transit-related matters?

Joe Posted December 28, 2010 Share #42 Posted December 28, 2010 The train was at a station, no? The Manhattan-bound subway, filled with passengers from Kennedy Airport who already had waited hours for flights that were ultimately canceled, came to an abrupt halt between the Aqueduct and Rockaway Blvd. stations. INDman Posted December 28, 2010 Share #45 Posted December 28, 2010 how were these passengers stranded? both trains have multiple cars birthed in the station. Those people wanted to stay since they had no where to go. If i remember correctly, several where homeless and 1 was from queens who was on the way to a party. One crew on the Brighton line was on their train for almost 40 hours, but they decided to stay when a new crew was sent to them.
Messino Posted December 28, 2010 Share #46 Posted December 28, 2010 They could have discharged that train at Aqueduct.. The MTA just didnt want to. The trains werent moving that close together. There was no train ahead of this train blocking them into the station. Dispatch was just being scum.
Guest lance25 Posted December 28, 2010 Share #47 Posted December 28, 2010 And where were the people going to go? If their destination was close by, then that would be all good, but if it wasn't, those passengers would be basically stuck since buses weren't really running and roads were impassible. At least on the train, they were out of the elements.

At least on the train, they were out of the elements. The Aqueduct train station is pretty big. They could have waited for friends or cabs.. At 1AM The snow wasnt that bad at that point where people couldnt drive on the roads.
Guest lance25 Posted December 28, 2010 Share #49 Posted December 28, 2010 The snow may not have been falling from the sky, but it was sure falling from everywhere else. The roads may have been cleared in certain areas, but most of the city was still blanketed under the white stuff, especially at 1AM Monday morning.
