R10 2952 Posted January 11, 2011 Share #27 Posted January 11, 2011 Seriously, WTF is wrong with people? Editing that particular word out of Huck Finn?
Via Garibaldi 8 Posted January 11, 2011 Share #28 Posted January 11, 2011 I read Huckleberry Finn in AP English back in High School. I didn't see what was so offensive about it. It's a really good book. Now the kids I see out in streets, black, white, Latino and the like...them I find offensive using the "n" word. They throw the word around trying to be hip and sh*t and they sound like complete ass*s. What they do is the equivalent of those juice heads on Jersey Shore... An embarassment to Italian-Americans. Funny thing is some of those guys aren't even Italian-American.

DOB2RTO Posted January 12, 2011 Share #30 Posted January 12, 2011 Next up Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe or The Man In The High Castle by Philip K. D1ck, maybe? They need to keep the N-word in Suckleberry Finn. Uncle Tom, Uncle Ben, and Aunt Jemima should go. I am suspicious of Wild Brown rice also. Why it got to be wild faw? Black magic, why it got to be the bad magic? The plague (aka the black death), why? I wonder do people use that term to describe a negro moving into a good neighborhood, depreciating property values....... :p ............Why the Wicked Witch of the West got to wear black, while the good one wears white? Why are people afraid of the dark, and dark people (actually I'm afraid of both myself). I scream when I look in the mirror at myself. Alright, I am done mutilating this thread........ Really, they need to leave Huckleberry Finn alone, and let N!gger Jim be.........

I know you were being sarcastic, but I think the whole deal with black being bad, negative etc.. goes back to primal days when man was living outdoors, scared of the night/dark and the nocturnal creatures and afraid of their own shadow. Knew you'd get a kick out of that one. “Political correctness is just a polite way of saying lying, and they're tired of turning on the TV and seeing people who are so terrified of their arguments being invalidated by a simple word choice that they don't say anything.” - Jason Reitman
N-Trizzy2609 Posted January 15, 2011 Share #33 Posted January 15, 2011 They might as well censor the word 'spick' from two of my books cuz it used alot. In the same way as Huckleberry Finn too, to show how derogatory the word is. This cencorship of books is making me sick to my stomach because they end up cenoring everything. They even cencored "A Girl Who Owned A City" by taking the words, ****** and Pussy < (Not the dirty word, that was a cat's name in that book but they changed it's name to Kitty)
Roadcruiser1 Posted January 15, 2011 Share #34 Posted January 15, 2011 I know what Political Correctness is. It's a bunch of bull crap that is similar to Soviet Censorship. So long America here comes the Soviet Socialist Republic of the United States, because how can we censor words that have had been there for 100+ years.

Corporations now have more rights than people, than citizens. Apparently illegals do now too.

Mark 1 Posted January 16, 2011 Share #37 Posted January 16, 2011 The nanny state at its finest. There are far more important things to worry about than a book which has profanity and derogatory slurs. In fact, there are plenty of classic books which have profanity but for a purpose like Huck Finn so these people need to get a grip.
